CHEMICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST SUMMARY
The Chemical and Environmental Compliance Specialist will report to LRTC (Corporate Compliance), supporting Toyota Tsusho America’s objectives to ensure compliance with all import, export, environmental, chemical and hazardous materials regulations. A core role will be development and continuous improvement of databases, forms and training in collaboration with other compliance team members. Other responsibilities will include conducting audits of business unit activities and operations related to chemical trading and onsite storage of hazardous materials. Applicable regulatory programs include US Customs, EPA TSCA and Tier 2, US DOT HazMat, US OSHA and Canada WHMIS Safety Data Sheet specifications.
CHEMICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will monitor various resources for relevant emerging regulations and updates to existing regulations and advise management of implications to our business.
Conduct formal audits to review compliance with import, export, environmental and chemical/hazmat regulations and company rules.
Cross check and QA data between various internal systems to ensure consistency.
Design and implement database management and reporting tools.
Assist with data gathering throughout the year to comply with a variety regulatory reporting requirements.
Collaborate with other compliance team members to develop and update internal and external SOPs, electronic forms and related training.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending internal/external educational workshops, formal training, reviewing professional publications, establish and expand professional networks, and participating in professional organizations.
This position is likely to be assigned special projects on a regular basis due to continuously emerging regulatory and/or business needs.
Support other programs within LRTC such as administration of the multi-site ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and CTPAT.
CHEMICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST EDUCATION/SKILLS REQUIRED
The ideal Chemical and Environmental Compliance Specialist candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in a science, engineering or legal discipline with a minimum of 2 years’ experience.
The ideal Chemical and Environmental Compliance Specialist candidate will have experience with US EPA Toxic Substances Control Act and US DOT Hazardous Materials or US Import/Export requirements. Knowledge of safety data sheets is preferred.
