Position Overview

Responsibilities
Act as a specialized know-how owner for a technical discipline.
Assess damage to Bearing components, categorize severity, and provide repair dispositions
Cooperate with specialists of other disciplines or faculties, may coordinate technical interfaces.
Track component repairs, including the collection of repair reports and the updating of failure logs. Initiate new Failure Mode communication on main components
Conduct root cause analyses based on failures in installed field and tests
Provide technical support to the operations and customers on technical cases.: e.g. troubleshooting, RCA, engineering statement.
Collaborate with the L3 global in defining containment solutions until final design solution.
Forecasting field behavior based on statistical and hands-on experience
Ensure learnings from field are being documented and shared within the organization and driving risk mitigation on new designs
Assist with the reliability management of bearings
Help build and develop the capabilities of in-house repair teams
Escalate complex and wide-fleet technical issues through the Support process by using the organization’s case management tools
Provide engineering support to the Operations team by performing the following activities: Technical assessment in the functionality, health and performance of the following mechanical system components in wind turbines, including but not limited to main bearing systems and Blade Bearings.
Prepare and participate in technical meetings with customers (remotely or in person) and lead on priority topics.
Provide remote support to on-site implementation PMs or field repair specialists Identify process improvements including reduction of non-valued added operations, increased productivity opportunities and better safety practices
Prepare and modify work instructions and assess job hazards.
Provide technical support and guidance to the Heavy Lift team in the evaluation of new techniques and procedures to be used in the replacement of major components.
Identify technical issues trends and occurrences within the fleet and prepare technical awareness documentation to be followed by the site operations team.
Provide technical support for Supply Chain and Quality Management activities for vendor qualification/evaluation as well as technical responses for material solution and disposition
Document standardized business procedures and systems to support the operations team. This includes design reviews, product change management and unit configuration records.
Coordinate activities for the validation of new work instructions including required resources, tooling, materials and consumables
Visit sites to conduct special inspections, failure investigations, or provide training.
Release of the refurbishment/repair report to customers
Technical support for MTI, claims and warranty management and other departments
Ensure the correct reporting of incidents and accidents, near misses and unsafe acts and conditions
Realizes the functional concept of components in a project by technical detailed solutions.
Required Knowledge/ Skills, Education, and Experience
A master or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or comparable qualification
A minimal of 5-7 years of successful working experience in wind turbine bearings, and at least 2 years of which in an office engineering support role.
Experience and working knowledge of rotative mechanical components
General understanding of basic turbine technology.
State of the art on mechanical systems, focused in bearing (Main Bearing and Blade Bearing) analysis, Testing and validation of documentation of mechanical equipment and components.
Experience with wind turbines, equipment reliability, bearings, condition-monitoring, or CMMS software is a plus
Experience working with large data sets and performing statistical analysis and diagnostics is a plus.
Must have solid experience with the following skills: demonstrated ability to lead discussions on performance claims at wind turbine and park (wind farm) level with customers/owners; experience leading root cause investigations to understand, contain and potentially solve incidents in a geared turbine
A team-player, confident to share new ideas and help all departments and colleagues
Strong communication skills including the ability to convey knowledge clearly and understandably to internal or external contacts
Familiarity with SAP, TeamCenter, and CAD tools is a plus
Self-driven and resourceful to achieve goals independently as well as in a team setup
Flexibility to adjust and thrive in an environment with changing requirements and priorities for multiple projects or assignments
Collaboration with International teams and working in different company cultures which requires proven international experience and cross-cultural understanding.
Drive to expand expertise and improve processes
English: C1 or C2 fluent in English; written and spoken. Preferably bilingual (Spanish).
Approximately 20% travel required to offices and wind turbine sites both domestically and internationally.
