The Associate Director of Development & Manufacturing Procurement leads a sourcing team to optimize our development spend which includes analytical, container closures, devices, early phase drug product & substance manufacturing, equipment, printed packaging, & raw materials for the Bioprocess Research & Development, Device Delivery & Connected Systems, and Synthetic Molecule Design & Development organizations. These areas make up the Medicine Innovation Hub (MIH).
Development & Manufacturing Procurement supports late-stage development, clinical trials, and the commercial manufacturing functions in the acquisition of capital projects, drug product, drug substance and associated materials/services. This role contributes by leading category-based procurement strategies, supplier selection, contract negotiations, & supplier relationship management with key global suppliers, as well as, providing account management to ensure alignment between Procurement and its business partners.
Key Objectives/Results:
Lead the Development Procurement team which will consist of three to four sourcing professionals responsible for sourcing efforts to build a cost-effective and resilient supply chain that supports the delivery of the development pipeline, enables seamless commercialization, and aligns to expansion of the scale & volume for commercial manufacturing portfolio to meet corporate objectives.
Lead the Development category by:
Interacting with MIH leadership to develop & implement sourcing third party procurement strategy.
Leading integrated strategy development, market analysis, key supplier negotiations, contracting, and ensure strategic alignment between MIH & commercial manufacturing through alignment with Development & Manufacturing leadership team and business partners.
Influence, review, and exercise authority to commit responsibilities to ensure that all transactions are FRAP compliant, recommendations to contract are appropriate networked with functional leadership, Finance & Procurement leadership, and ultimate ATS/C approvers.
Achieve team performance targets for savings, diverse spend, inflation management, implementation of guided buying, supplier consolidation, and supplier risk management, etc.
Provide procurement expertise (strategy, sourcing, negotiation, contracting, relationship management, risk management, etc.), project prioritization, and business alignment to enable the completion of team activities in an efficient and effective manner which also appropriately supports work life balance.
Develop the team through coaching, training, development plans, and new experiences to facilitate higher levels of performance and efficiency, cross-team/category collaboration, broader individual capabilities, and a team of engaged well qualified resources that can fill future openings for leaders and individual contributors.
Engage in internal (organizational & functional) and external governance activities to exert procurement influence, provide commercial leadership, ensure collaborative relationships, and establish appropriate execution strategies, and demonstrate strategic problem solving.
Learn and understand your business clients, their strategy, key levers that enable their success, and how Procurement can best engage to achieve their success.
Ensure category strategies are robust, supplier relationship management is regularly conducted, contractual relationships are current & well documented, and supplier risk management activities are appropriate for market conditions & business goals.
Basic Requirements :
Bachelor’s degree in scientific, engineering, business, supply chain, procurement, or another relevant professional field.
Minimum of 5 years of previous procurement sourcing experience, which demonstrates strategic business results, influential internal & external leadership interactions, and collaborative supplier relationships.
Preferred skills:
Demonstrated mastery of core sourcing skills – account management, category, and supplier strategy development, spend analysis, sourcing, negotiation, and supplier relationship management.
Recognized expertise as a category manager that uses clear category strategies to drive business results.
Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, & lead.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience building relationships, influencing, and working effectively without formal reporting relationships.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Additional Preferences:
Prior development and/or manufacturing procurement sourcing.
Prior leadership/supervision experience.
Demonstrated ability to deliver work product beyond assigned job responsibilities to support organizational objectives.
Previous delivery of strategic process improvement results
Experience managing major third-party relationships including selection, contracting, governance, and resolving problems.

This is a full-time position located in Indianapolis, Indiana
Flexibility to support sites in multiple time zones is required.
Travel percentage: 10-15%, international travel required.
