Description The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) of Stony Brook University (SBU) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Tissue Engineering, Biomaterials, and Regeneration, starting in the Fall of 2024. BME at SBU is a highly interdisciplinary department with growing thematic areas including tissue engineering, biomaterials, bioimaging, regenerative medicine, and bio-nanotechnology; emphasizing collaboration with faculty from other disciplines including but not limited to Dermatology, Chemistry, Neurobiology and Behavior, Psychology, Pathology, Surgery, Orthopedics, Physics, Computer Science, Materials Science and Chemical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Further, the BME department is jointly administered by the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS), and the Renaissance School of Medicine (RSOM), the largest academic medical center in Suffolk County, New York. Collaboration with the RSOM provides access to numerous clinical populations and clinicians across many specialties. Further fostering this collaboration, the position is funded through the RSOM.
Successful applicants will demonstrate expertise within a research area (e.g., smart materials, stem cells, scaffolding, nanoparticles, genetic editing, single-cell and RNA sequencing, cellular and molecular mechanisms, and biomarkers) and/or a particular imaging modality in therapeutic and diagnosis. The chosen candidate will be expected to pursue an independent, externally funded research program.

Qualifications Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) with relevant research training and a record of excellence in research. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent academic credentials and promise in securing extramural funding to support an independent externally funded research program. The successful candidate must demonstrate proficiency/experience at undergraduate and graduate teaching, service to the discipline, and diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to individuals who develop tissue regeneration technologies and/or novel biomaterials for translational research, and collaborate with clinical investigators and scientists across SBU departments, such as the Department of Dermatology, in the RSOM.
