　　Responsibilities

　　The Certified Peer Specialist works as part of a Assertive Community Team that provides care and treatment for clients that are experiencing significant mental health/psychiatric symptoms, who are demonstrating significant functional impairments, and who may have co-occurring chemical dependency and or personality disorder. Peer Specialists are fully integrated team members who provide highly individualized services in the community and promote client self determination and decision making.

　　Peer Specialists provide essential expertise and consultation to the entire team to promote a culture in which each client’s point of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected, and integrated into treatment, rehabilitation, and community self-help activities.

　　The practitioner has a two focused level of responsibility: First, for the care, welfare, treatment, and safety of the clients as individuals. Secondly, for the facilitation of a work and a treatment culture that promotes trans-disciplinary team work, professionalism, cultural competency, and adherence to best practice principles and interventions.

　　The Peer Specialist has responsibility for client specific and program outcomes. Primary duties may include providing peer support in recovery, individual counseling, skills teaching, group work, coordination with the team, participation in treatment planning, illness management and recovery.

　　FACT is an adaptation of the assertive community treatment model designed to serve people with a serious mental illness who are involved in the criminal justice system. It features a collaborative relationship between the mental health professionals and the criminal justice agencies.

　　Qualifications

　　Holds a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences or related fields from an accredited college or university. Preferred experience in the delivery of services to persons with mental illness. Upon completion of 4000 hours of supervised experience, the Peer Specialist would be eligible to do case management activities; such as assessment and treatment planning.

　　This position requires only that license which may be required based on education and standards determined by educational/degree guidelines. The agency encourages staff to seek license at the highest standard permitted by his/her education and experience.
