About Senior Auditor

  Summary Band IIA Senior Auditors typically have responsibility for a segment of the engagement including design, data collection and analysis, message development and product preparation. The incumbent works independently producing products that are technically complete. The incumbent may serve as an Auditor-in-Charge (AIC) typically of an engagement of low or medium scope and complexity. Responsibilities As an individual contributor, develops design matrix and researchable questions independently or in conjunction with engagement team members and a methodologist. Collects and analyzes data from a variety of sources including interviews with agency managers and program officials. Reviews program documents, reports and data. Selects,refines, organizes and presents factual information and analysis in support of engagement objectives. In collaboration with other engagement team members, and based on consultation with the AIC and Assistant Director (AD), decides on form, content, scope, and depth of analysis. Evaluates and analyzes data to determine relevance and reliability through referencing and indexing. Develops findings and recommendations and prepares written products that provide factual and analytical information in a clear, balanced manner that meet the needs of congressional clients and conform to all audit requirements and quality standards. As a Senior Auditor on an engagement team, serves as a coach and mentor to Band I Auditor and PDP staff. As assigned, may serve on an engagement team conducting financial audits including the consolidated financial statement audit of the Federal government (involving up to 35 federal agencies). When serving as the AIC, typically leads engagements of low or medium scope and complexity. Oversees all aspects of design, data collection and analysis, message development and report writing and ensures the quality and value of the final product. Prioritizes the work to ensure milestones are met. Assigns vvork to team members to include expectations and deadlines for completing assignments. Coaches, mentors and trains team members. Ensures coordination with stakeholders. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment You may be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance depending on the engagements, projects, and initiatives assigned to you. If selected, you may be required to submit a transcript that proves you meet the education requirements. Qualifications You must meet one of the following: Have a minimum of 104 weeks of GAO experience at the PE Band I level or equivalent experience in another banded pay plan (i.e., PA-I, PT-I, PT-II, AC-III, and AC-IV) by the effective date of the change to higher level; or Have 78 weeks of GAO experience at the PE Band I level or equivalent experience in another banded pay plan (i.e., PA-I, PT-I, PT-II, AC-I, AC-II, AC-III, and AC-IV) by the effective date of the change to higher level and 52 weeks of directly-related experience prior to starting work at GAO. The effective date of the change to higher level--promotion--will be 05/05/2024. Education You must meet one of the following: I have a degree in accounting or auditing. I have a degree that includes auditing courses in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. NOTE: The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. I have 1.) at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge and 2.) twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. NOTE: This can include up to 6 hours of business law. I have 1.) at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge and 2.) a certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination. I have 1.) at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge and 2.) I completed the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing--for example, 15 semester hours--but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hours in accounting. Additional Information Bargaining unit status: This position is in the bargaining unit. Duty station: If selected for promotion, you will be promoted in your current duty station. Flexible Work Agreement (FWA) or Remote Work Agreement (RWA): If you are selected for a promotion and have applied for a Flexible Work Agreement (FWA) or Remote Work Agreement (RWA), and are approved for one of these agreements, you will have to re-apply if selected for promotion based on the new position to which you will be promoted. Additionally, you may have a 90-day waiting period if you have requested FWA or RWA to a new geographical location. Salary ranges by location: your salary range is determined by your location.
