We are seeking a Principal Test Engineer to lead automation, optimization, and operational efficiency initiatives for our qualification and testing teams. You will partner with Azure Engineering teams across Microsoft as well as suppliers and technology partners to develop, operationalize and optimize frameworks, data, tooling, and processes that will help us run our qualification efforts efficiently while supporting the growth of our hardware development pipeline.
Successful candidate will have experience with hardware qualification and test methodology, as well as experience operating large scale environments leveraging software automation, establishing operational processes and collecting, organizing and using data to drive improvements in operational efficiency.

Responsibilities
Operational data quality: work closely with test leads, program managers, engineering groups, and software teams to identify gaps in operational data, and drive cross-functional initiatives to develop tools and solutions that will ensure long term quality and comprehensiveness of data sources, content, integrations, and accuracy.
Operational efficiency: collaborate with internal customers and partner teams to digitize and automate processes, create integration points and ensure efficient use of resources to meet Service-level Agreements (SLAs) and drive continuous improvement.
Automation engineering: lead a cross-functional initiative focusing on implementing end-to-end automation frameworks to streamline qualification forecasting, intake, setup, execution, and signoff.
Quality as a Service: Maintain and improve operational Key Performance Indicators (KPI) metrics providing visibility into operations, gaps, and opportunities for optimization.
Tooling and infrastructure: continuously evaluate existing software tooling and test infrastructure to identify new requirements, necessary features, and infrastructure augmentations, and act as a Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) collaborating with partner teams to build consensus and deliver against the requirements.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
10+ years of technical engineering experience
OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience
OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience.
2+ years experience with cloud product development, integration, and test.
10+ years experience delivering engineering projects with technical management, program management and cross-group collaboration skills.
Expertise in modern data center, hardware, automation software, operations, and end-to-end product development life cycle.
Other requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience building and operating critical large scale services leveraging software automation and tooling.
Experience in cross-functional collaboration including being able to present to and drive consensus with upper-level management.
Experience operating a service for internal customers including ticketing systems, Service-level Agreements (SLAs), escalations, monitoring, root cause analysis, and post-mortems.
Experience with fleet operations including inventory, change procedures, data center operations, and security best practices.
Experience working with internal customers and external vendors.
Hardware Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
