This is a Part-Time position.
This Head Start position works 195 days per year, 975 hours per year from August to May. The Early Head Start position works 218 days per year, 1140 hours per year from August to July.

SUMMARY:
The Empowerment Professional (Pro) will work 20 hours per week assisting the Head Start teacher in the classroom and 5 hours per week working on a training course (sponsored by the agency) to secure a Preschool or Infant/Toddler or Preschool Child Development Associate (CDA) within 6 months of employment. Pro will also be used as a substitute teacher when a teacher or assistant is absent from a classroom. Current or former Head Start parents are encouraged to apply. Pros that fall within the current/retired educator category are required to work a minimum 18 hours a week, up to 25 hours per week, and to be used as support and as a substitute teacher when a teacher or assistant is absent from a classroom.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duties are NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities.
With the teacher, guide and facilitate activities of the children, including daily activitiesand selecting and arranging equipment and materials in the classroom;
Cooperate with other staff and classroom groups to maintain the smooth functioningof the center, which at times may require changes to meet the needs of the children;
Eat with and assist children in development of social and self-help skills, and sound
nutritional practices, as required;
Guide childrens acquisition of social skills;Assist in providing and maintaining a safe and healthy classroom and playgroundenvironment, following all Head Start and ITERS/ECERS Standards;
Assist in conducting the daily health and environment checklist;Complete and submit required forms and records in a timely and accuratefashion;
Actively assist in transition activities;Distribute newsletters, flyers, and other information to families as instructed bythe supervisor;
Actively participate in the development and implementation of theProfessional Development Plan and performance review;
Ensure that files are complete, accurate, and confidentialitymaintained;
Assist other center staff with clerical and janitorial assignments;Maintain established standards of sanitation, safety, and food preparation andstorage as set by the local and state health departments;
Perform the functions of this position with a general understanding of the HeadStart Performance Standards, State of Tennessee Child Care Licensing Regulations,
and Agency policies and procedures; and working knowledge and application of
Chattanooga Head Start School Readiness Goals;Participate in Agency training events, center staff meetings, and other training eventsas needed;
Performs other duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma and be at least 18 years of age.
Experience working with children ages birth to 5 years of age.
Any combination of equivalent experience and education to perform the essential
functions of the position will be considered.

Must be willing to participate in a program to obtain a CDA within one year of
employment. (Current/Retired educator are excluded from this qualification)
