The Youth Treatment Specialistembraces working with one to three youth teaching skills and empoweringyouth during a mental health crisis. Youth treatment specialists providesupervision of the youth and are responsible for ensuring safety ofyouth during sleeping hours. Essential Functions: Serve as a treatmentspecialist in the milieu supporting therapeutic interactions by coachingskill use throughout activities, modeling appropriate behavior, teachingand reinforcing use and generalization of skills. Perform third shiftroom checks per policy and follow clinical recommendations for safetysuch as suicide protocol, involving mobile crisis, and utilizing safetyplanning and protocols.. Conduct room searches, complete laundry,building cleaning and supporting inventory process. Use evidence-basedbest practices for youth with mental health, substance use and lifeneeds.This includes Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), trauma informedcare, motivational interviewing, youth centered, and culturally reverentapproaches while celebrating youth\'s development and identity. Usemotivation and engagement strategies to encourage youth involved insystems such as the court services and Department of Children andFamilies to participate in treatment programming and involvement inprogram activities. Always provide active sight and sound supervision toyouth and families with complex needs. Assess youth behavior for risk toself and others or behavioral changes within the treatment milieu andcommunicate with supervisory and/or clinical staff regarding appropriatesupport as needed. Perform milieu management and coaching with youthexperiencing emotional dysregulation and/or crisis according to theirtreatment plans including one-on-one support for the plan for extrahelp. Calmly and responsibly respond during crisis situations andintervene to de-escalate using trained and approved methods andtechniques of verbal and physical intervention to maintain safety in theenvironment.
