The incumbent works strategically with the AD Program Manager on issues as needed of significant matters relating to the overall mission of the Network. The VISN AD CPP may be asked to serve as the Acting AD Program Manager in his/her/their absence. Duties not limited to: FUNCTIONS 1. Program Administration Manages assigned AD programs and campaigns requiring coordination of multiple locations such as medical center care facilities, Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), rural health areas, etc. Reports on the success of the program, including improved quality assurance metrics, areas of improvement and lessons learned. Advocates for the best Veteran care but does not push resources or information, if not appropriate. Advocates for innovation and change through committee involvement. Sets and meets priorities, attends identified priority meetings, follows through on commitments, safeguards information, organizes and uses time and resources to achieve desired results. Fosters professional growth through mentorship to advance the practice of academic detailing. Operationalizes academic detailing campaigns as assigned. This includes but is not limited to environmental assessment, stakeholder engagement, module preparation/upskilling, inservice/socialization, process improvement strategies, outreach visits, and evaluation. Evaluates progress for each campaign working with the AD Program Manager to set campaign metric goals. Conducts periodic assessment of campaign implementation and behavior change progress and shares strong practices when identified. Provides direct implementation services supporting practice change to align with evidence-based recommendations where gaps in quality have been identified in the healthcare system. Targets and tracks outcomes of campaign/program goals, clinical patient outcome trends, healthcare resource utilization, and value-based medication use throughout the organization. Provides feedback to assigned facilities/clinicians on performance measure trends as relevant to AD initiatives for continued support for any necessary changes. Reviews and uses data tools to track performance measures, and to provide population-based feedback to meet measures. 2. Academic Detailing Outreach, Documentation and Training Promotes evidence-based practices, builds relationships with healthcare teams, and resolves barriers to improve Veterans' care. Conducts educational outreach interventions to analyze, describe, propose solutions, and work to implement solutions to system barriers impeding implementation of evidence-based practices. engages in academic detailing outreach visits on campaigns identified within the VISN and by the National Academic Detailing Services (ADS). Provides a quality-oriented academic detailing approach using advanced implementation and communication strategies to aid clinicians in engaging in shared decision-making based on balanced evidence-based medicine. Provides consistent follow-up to questions/requests, is available for lectures/in-service presentations related to initiatives as requested by facilities and advises implementation strategies for planned activities as needed. Conducts periodic assessments of outcomes to aid in communicating successes and/or potential barriers to target audience. 3. Clinical Supports national, VISN and facility clinical initiatives that are focused on appropriate, outcomebased, cost-efficient use of selected medications. Initiatives include, but are not limited to, medications that are high cost, high volume, high alert, or subject to misuse. Maintains a good working knowledge of information resources, both written and electronic, as well as therapeutics and disease management areas covered by clinical pharmacy services. Keeps current of changes in the Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM), CPPO, and PBM Formulary services (e.g., formulary additions and deletions, relevant memoranda, and policies and procedures), as well as general knowledge of VA, Drug Enforcement Administration, US Food and Drug Administration, and The Joint Commission regulations especially as it relates to clinical pharmacy.
