  The Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Technician I will provide technical support and set standards for UXO personnel conducting ordnance response projects, perform reconnaissance, classification, disposing, transporting, storage of UXO complying with Federal, state and local laws, will perform risk-hazard analysis and maintenance and operator checks on all team equipment.

  Essential Duties:In this capacity, the technician will perform the following: assist in performing reconnaissance and classification of UXO; identification of U.S. and foreign guided missiles, bombs and bomb fuzes, projectiles and projectile fuzes, grenades and grenade fuzes, rockets and rocket fuzes, land mines and associated components, pyrotechnic items, military explosives and demolition materials.Work also requires that the incumbent perform location of subsurface UXO using military and/or civilian magnetometers, assists in performing excavation procedures on buried UXO, perform operator maintenance of military and/or civilian magnetometers.This technician will locate surface UXO using visual means and assist in the following: transporting and storing UXO and demolition materials, preparing non-electric firing system for a UXO disposal operation, and preparing electric firing system for a UXO disposal operation disposing of ammunition/explosives by burning.This worker is responsible for disposing of ammunition/explosives by detonation, assisting in the operation of a personnel decontamination station, wear appropriate personal protective equipment in contaminated areas, and assist in the inspection of salvage UXO-related material and erection of UXO-related protective works.This technician will perform necessary demilitarization actions/activities required by the DoD (4160.21 Vol. 1-4, 4160.28 Vol. 1-3, etc.) and target debris processing to safely ship processed material to recycler or landfill during range residue removal operations.This technician will be required to operate cutting torches, chopsaws and other various tools to perform DEMIL operations.

  Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  Must be able and prepared to regularly walk long distances, lift at least 50lbs, and stand for long periods of time outside in potentially extreme weather conditions (high heat, sub-freezing, wind, rain, etc.).Must be able to communicate effectively, confidently, and effectively understand and execute directions, and comprehend written instructions and pertinent written information.Must be able to pass a biannual OSHA physical to receive a physicians work release.Must be willing to learn new skills and be flexible to performing new job duties.Must have at minimum a rudimentary ability to identify basic type of military munitions (e.g., family, group, type) and the specific safety precautions associated with them.Must be aware of shortcomings in personal knowledge and be willing to seek assistance when necessary to ensure safety when performing MEC-related activities.Must be able to understand explosives safety precautions as they apply to MEC-related activities.Previous experience in range residue removal, munitions response actions, and range clearance activities a plus, but not required.

  Required Qualifications:Graduate of a military EOD School of the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Germany, or Australia. OR Graduate of a DDESB recognized UXO-TI Course.Graduate of an OSHA compliant (Section 1910.120 of Title 29, CFR) 40-hour HAZWOPER course. This certification is to be maintained annually with an OSHA compliant 8 Hour HAZWOPER refresher.Biannual physicians work release document produced by undergoing an OSHA physical exam.No minimum time/experience requirements.
