Summary You will serve as a Transportation Assistant (Freight) in the Navy Transportation Office Section located within Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center Sigonella Site Rota, Spain. If selected below the full performance level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Responsibilities You will describe shipments with a broad classification, rate and routing range using appropriate terminology in order to secure best value transportation services and rates. You will coordinate the movement of over-dimensional freight to move over public highways. You will process shipments in Global Freight Management Electronic transportation Acquisition (GFM-ETA) system to generate Bills of Laden (BLs) and labels, and prepare other necessary documentation for all shipments, excluding hazardous material. You will research all addresses for proper delivery. You will compute shipment cost and certifies detention, re-delivery, permit, and line haul charges to ensure charges are valid and in accordance with the carrier rates on file. You will Manages carrier performance for commercial carriers providing service from the regional and within the region. You will investigate and determine carriers? responsibilities for overages, shortages, astray, damages, or any discrepancies incident to the shipment of material. For the GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Answering questions and providing information on shipment, delivery and storage procedures. 2) Inputting data into automated information systems regarding cargo shipments. 3) Providing customer service to meet client's shipping concerns and needs. 4) Assisting with inspections of cargo containers for damage and documenting discrepancies.
