Job Summary:The Tax Experienced Associate, International Tax Services will begin to utilize their educational background and organizational skills while taking direction from other, more experienced team members as they assist in consulting with clients on cross-border tax matters. Responsibilities will include utilizing tax research skills to provide international tax advice and working with tax software applications to assist clients with tax reporting obligations for international operations.Job Duties:Tax ConsultingDevelops, recommends, and implements critical thinking to provide clients with tax advice on international tax issuesGains exposure to the development of work plans for all assigned clientsLearns about international tax law relevant to particular clients and how that law can be appropriately applied to client factsMonitors tax law and client factual developments on a daily basisCoordinates with BDO non-US colleagues in approximately 160 countries on how US tax rules align with foreign tax law to impact client transactionsTax SpecializationDevelops an in-depth understanding of the technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding International taxation and explores specializing in one or more international tax areasResearchIdentifies when research is necessary and frames issues to be researched; identifies sources of all reliable and relevant information including information tending to contradict preferred positions; accesses those sources and retrieves that information; analyzes facts and authorities; understands their weight; and reports on analysisPrepares Written Tax Advice (WTA) on international tax and cross-border transactions and seeks assistance from other more experienced team members as neededTax ComplianceAssists in obtaining required client information to utilize in the preparation of international tax compliance forms and US international informational reportingHas a basic level of understanding of tax compliance as evidenced by:Ability to use Firm tax compliance software to maximize efficiency in tax preparation processUnderstanding international tax compliance topics such as Subpart F income, Earnings and Profits adjustments and foreign tax credits and analyzing cross-border transactions for tax return impacts, including Section 351 and Section 304 transactions, liquidations under Sections 331 and 332, and reorganizations under Section 368Tax ControversyMay assist in preparing to represent clients before the IRS on contested issuesASC 740-10Develops a basic understanding of ASC 740-10 as it applies to international tax issues and applies knowledge to client situations as applicableUnderstands and applies Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality ManualOther duties as requiredSupervisory ResponsibilitiesN/AQualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Education:Bachelor's degree, required; focus in in Accounting, preferredJuris Doctorate degree, LLM, and/or MST/MBT, preferredExperience:One (1) or more years of prior experience in professional services or equivalent experience gained through an advanced degree program, requiredExperience in international tax, preferredLicense/Certifications:CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent ("EA") (or the equivalent of one of these designations), preferredSoftware:Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, preferredExperience utilizing RIA, BNA, Lexis Nexis and/or Westlaw, beneficial, preferredLanguage:N/AOther Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Strong verbal and written communications skillsStrong analytical and basic legal and tax research skillsSolid organ
