Kirkland Land Surveying, located in Franklin, NC, is currently seeking Surveying Technician II - Crew Chief/Instrument Operator. The successful candidate for this position will adjust and operate surveying instruments, such as GPS Base / Rover units, the robotic/total station distance-measuring equipment, and compiles notes, make sketches and enter data into computers. Finally, they will complete simple routine tasks under close supervision.
Pay range:Up to $20/hour -Pay dependent upon knowledge, experience and enthusiasm.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities* Search for property corners and survey points.* Perform manual labor, such as cutting brush for lines, carrying stakes, rebar, and other heavy items.* Set out and recover stakes, marks, and other monumentation.* Maintain equipment and vehicles used by surveying crews.* Place and hold measuring tapes when electronic distance-measuring equipment is not used.* Position and hold the vertical rods, or targets, that robotic/total station operators use for sighting in-order-to measure angles, distances, and elevations.* Run rods for benches and cross-section elevations.* Compile information necessary to stake projects for construction, using engineering plans.* Adjust and operate surveying instruments such as prisms, robotic/total stations and other electronic distance-measuring equipment.* Conduct surveys using electronic distance-measuring equipment and other surveying instruments.* Record survey measurements and descriptive data, using notes, drawings, sketches, and inked tracings.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
NC licensure, Survey Intern OR AAS/BS in Surveying or other Geomatics related field is required.Prior experience preferred.Must be adaptable and have attention to detail.Muchof the work will be outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.The employee will be required to hike into some remote areas or work in heavily congested and populated areas.Ability to extensively perform cutting of brush, lifting and carrying heavy objects as needed.Some office work will be required.Office work is generally sedentary in nature but will require some lifting (restocking of inventory).Anticipate travel as we service the Southeast area.Computer skills are essential. The use of Computer Assisted Drafting (CAD, such as Carlson), accurate data entry skills, ability to operate and master various electronic devices and software programs is needed for surveying and mapping.Should have ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals is necessary.The employee will be expected to apply common sense understanding, to carry out detailed written and oral instructions.HOW TO APPLY:
