The intern should be able to walk away from the internship with valuable learning that applies to their chosen degree.This internship is in Richland, WA; the work site may be within the city limits or outside on the Hanford site.Our Fire Protection team is seeking a dynamic, Fire Protection Engineer Summer Intern who has outstanding technical abilities and excellent time management skills. Our mission is to minimize the likelihood of occurrence of a fire-related event, minimize the consequence of a fire-related event affecting the workers, public, environment, and property, and prove a level of safety protection consistent with the "highly protected risk" class of industrial risks. If you are an Engineering professional who enjoys problem solving and working with a variety of people in a challenging environment, please apply!The Fire Protection Engineer Summer Intern duties may include the following:* Performing Facility Fire Protection Assessments across the site at the multitude of operating nuclear facilities.* Assuring that fire hazards are controlled/mitigated, that life safety is maintained, and that facilities and operations are in compliance with DOE contract requirements, NFPA codes and standards, and other applicable statutory requirements.* Supporting a Fire Protection Engineer performing fire hazards analysis, facility fire assessments, design and work document reviews, and oversight ofoperations to help assure fire safety.* Interfacing with the Hanford Fire Marshal (HFM) and, if qualified as a Deputy Fire Marshal (DFM), function on the behalf of the HFM in performing DFM responsibilities as authorized.* Working closely with project nuclear safety staff to maintain the fire hazards analyses for the projects and to support maintenance of the documented safety analyses.* Performing work in a safe, compliant, and cost-effective manner.* Other duties as assigned.Basic Qualifications*At least 18 years of age.*An active full-time student during the two semesters/quarters immediately preceding the assignment.*Maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) during their college enrollment.*Able to work full-time (40 hours) during the internship experience.
