An ESS substitute school nurse (RN/LPN) assists in providing the fullest possible educational opportunity for students by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in the schools.

Responsibilities
Provide critical care services to medically fragile students as assignedAdminister medications from physicians' ordersMaintain medication records and reportsCommunicate with medical, nursing, and district personnelManage and provide health room services, including first aid and CPR, according to established proceduresProvide guidance and counseling in the area of health to students, staff, and parents according to professional standardsQualifications
Bachelor's Degree in NursingNurse Certification, RN or LPNPhysical Requirements
Frequent sitting, walking, standing, stooping, and lifting, up to approximately 50 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds; other physical activities may be requiredKnowledge and Skills
Follow oral and written directionsEstablish effective working relationships with staff and studentsFollow students IEP/504 plan to properly administer medications and care for any student who becomes injured or ill while at school or participating in school-sponsored functionsWork with frequent interruptionsMaintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with student, staff and/or parent informationRequired Clearances
