Structural (Bridge) Engineering Specialist Provide structural design services and develop engineering plans and specifications for bridges and other transportation-related structures, including the design of new bridges, bridge replacements, rehabilitation and repair, culverts, noise walls, bridge widenings, retaining walls and other related structures. Projects include both Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build. Work under the supervision of a licensed engineer to perform the following position duties: produce detailed engineering and structural drawings, calculations and specifications for project bid documents in accordance with applicable codes and government standards, including AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, AASHTO Standard Specifications for Highway Bridges, AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation, AISC, ACI 318, AREMA Manual for Railway Engineering, NYSDOT Bridge Design Manual, AWS Structural Welding Code; review shop and working drawings; perform analysis of existing structures; produce engineering design-related reports; perform studies and calculate estimated quantities; perform quantity take-off and cost estimating; conduct field inspections of bridges and related structures; prepare bridge load ratings and bridge rating computations; and produce construction submittals and contracts. Position duties require extensive utilization of specialized engineering software, including SAP 2000, ETABS, CSi Bridge, Mathcad, Autocad, Microstation, Leap Concrete, Leap Steel, Midas, MDX. Requires: Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering, followed by minimum five years of progressive experience in the position offered. Master’s degree in civil or structural engineering may be used to satisfy up to two years of the required work experience. Annual salary range for offered position: $126,714 to $160,616.
