  About the Indiana State Prison:

  As a part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Indiana State Prison promotes public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry. The Indiana State Prison is a maximum security Correctional facility for adult males . The Indiana State Prison is located in Michigan City, Indiana. The Indiana State Prison is the oldest Correctional facility in operations for the Department of Correction, located on 100 acres in Michigan City, Indiana. The Indiana State Prison houses incarcerated individuals with long sentences or individuals convicted of violent crimes.

  Role Overview:

  As a Stores Clerk 2 at the Indiana State Prison, you will be working as a part of a team in a maximum security Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) facility for adult males. During a typical day, you will be responsible for pulling and delivering all orders into the facility daily. Ensure all items are accounted for with 100% accuracy. Load and unload delivery trucks. Oversee general janitorial duties and monitor Incarcerated Individuals to ensure safety and security. Assist in commissary as needed and inspect all packages delivered to the facility.

  Salary:

  The salary for this position traditionally starts at $29,588.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

  A Day in the Life:

  The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  Authorize the accuracy of all orders received in the storeroom and authorize all goods received.

  Contact vendors regarding partial shipments and/or misorders.

  Maintained detailed inventory records and records of items ordered.

  Evaluate and recognize record-keeping or storage procedures as necessary.

  Ensure proper storage procedures and rotation of stock for perishable items.

  Make recommendations on purchase of new equipment for warehouse and maintenance required in building.

  Oversee and assembles equipment received in “knocked down” condition.

  Ensure the security of inmate staff assigned to the warehouse.

  What You'll Need for Success:

  You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  Thorough knowledge of requisitioning and disbursing procedures, consumption rates of stored items and inventory control procedures.

  Thorough knowledge of stock items, their locations and the proper methods of storing a variety of goods and supplies based upon efficient space utilization and a variety of state and federal regulations.

  Effective communication skills.

  Practical knowledge of state regulations in handling and storing foodstuffs and perishables.

  Ability to train inmates and staff in proper operation of all equipment and proper methods of storage.

  Ability to maintain detailed, accurate inventory and purchasing records.

  Ability to operate forklift, hand-truck and other mechanical equipment in warehouse.

  Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

  This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
