About Sr. Director, Data Engineering

  Job Description

  The Sr. Director, Data Engineering will represent Digital Technology by leading the delivery of data engineering services for the enterprise. This position will play a pivotal role in shaping our data engineering landscape, focusing on the precise and timely delivery of data to drive informed business decision-making. This role will be responsible for the strategy and delivery of data engineering services across the enterprise, in partnership with the Data & Insights organization. The incumbent will possess experience with a wide range of technologies/protocols, and a robust background in data infrastructure, ETL processes, DataOps, real-time/near real-time data handling, data pipeline design, data integration, automation, and CI/CD practices. The incumbent will lead the engineering, delivery, and support of automated, cloud-based data capabilities and technologies in support of the Enterprise Data strategy and roadmap. This role requires understanding of business issues/ opportunities, and work with various stakeholders in problem solving, creating capabilities, and defining effective & efficient modern data engineering practices. This leader must possess strong experience in developing and driving data engineering strategy, program and roadmap as well as strategic partnership (both internal and external) skills, change leadership skills, and develop outstanding working relationships with their peers in Technology, as well as the Data Community of Practice and Product owners.

  Skills and Requirements

  * 12+ years of IT experience.

  * 10+ years of experience leading direct reports.

  * Significant experience in data engineering, with at least 5 years in data engineering leadership role.

  * Experience implementing data capabilities and technologies supporting data pipelines, data integration, and data transformation.

  * Strong understanding of engineering, implementing and supporting data solutions in a cloud environment.

  * Expertise in ETL processes, data infrastructure, and pipeline development.

  * Familiarity with DataOps, real-time data handling, automation, and CI/CD practices.

  * Knowledge of cloud computing platforms, SQL databases, and big data tools such as Hadoop, Spark, or Kafka.

  * Experience with data platforms supporting Data as a Product, Data as a Service, Data Mesh, Data Virtualization, and/or Data Fabric.

  * Proven leadership and team management skills, with a track record of driving tasks to completion.

  * Deep knowledge of data management software and tools (e.g., data warehouses, ETL tools, data modeling tools).

  * Proven expertise in data tools and methodologies across all data disciplines

  * Exceptional understanding of data architecture principles and best practices in the newest technologies

  * Understanding of data security and privacy best practices.

  * Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks, Snowflake and/or equivalent cloud data technologies and platforms.

  * Familiarity with SQL, Java and Python.

  * Experience working with Agile/Scrum methodologies.

  * Evaluates the technology portfolio and identifies opportunities for realizing strategic value by reusing, replacing, or modernizing data technology components.

  * Knowledge of existing, new, and emerging technologies and being able to practically adopt them to new enterprise needs/ enhancing existing solutions.
