SUMMARY:
The primary responsibility of this position will be to support animalwelfare (AW) programs at The Pork Group ensuring that the animals areraised, handled, and transported in a safe, humane, and appropriatemanner throughout our supply chain in accordance with company andnational standards for animal care and handling.
Specifically, this role will include: performing animal welfare andhandling audits, assisting with the development and management of bestpractices, training programs, the review of AW trends for the assignedproduction areas, and effective interdepartmental communication. Assistwith development and refinement of animal welfare training materialsthat will be used at live animal facilities. Assist with trainingmaterial and deliver training to ensure that staff understand bestpractices and animal welfare expectations. Verify compliance to ensuretraining is completed during regular live production visits and verifyunderstanding during communication with staff during audits. Conductaudits at farms to verify animal welfare program compliance with companyand industry standards. Provide constructive feedback and communicatewith production managers at company and contract producer locationsduring audits. Review and record audits results within company database.Provide technical support and assistance with the AW program. Createdistribute written audit reports after each visit. Analyze trends foranimal welfare data and assist with internal special projects researchtrials training projects and evaluation of innovative technology to meetbusiness needs for animal welfare.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor\'s degree required
Experience: 3+ year of experience in animal science or agricultureproduction. Prefer experience to be in the live swine productionindustry which would result in animal welfare and handling advancedknowledge.
Computer Skills: Standard computer skills.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skillswith internal and external customers.
Supervisory: This position does not have direct reports.
Travel: 1 to 5 domestic trips per year
