TURNERS FALLS Entry Level Machine Spark Operator - 2nd Shift Judd WireInc., a Sumitomo Electric Group company, is looking for 2nd shift EntryLevel Machine Operator- Sparker in our Turners Falls, MA manufacturingfacility. Individuals will be responsible for a variety of dutiesincluding: Performing required operations connected with measuring,inspecting, testing and re-spooling wire and cable in preparation forshipping or its next operation. Minimum Hourly Rate: \$18.01/hour,\$1.00/hour 2nd shift differential. Job Duties Work from factory orders,special customer requirements and verbal instructions to evaluate andmeet specifications with regard to conductor size, amount of insulationover diameter, sparking voltage, type of repairs allowed (if any),number of pieces per reel, type of reel for put-up, sparking sequence,number of conductors, multiple lengths, amount of order. Set up wire orcable on sparking machine, selects proper counter eyes, appliesprescribed sparking voltage, maintains proper traverse while operatingmachine at fastest allowable speed; set up voltage tester, test wire andsmall cables at prescribed voltage, check continuity tester to insurethere are no breaks or shorts Visually examine and inspect wire/cablesas they are pulled through the machine to detect sparking (defects).Identify areas of defective insulation, cut out defective piece Usemicrometer to check conductor for proper size, check appearance ofinsulation and centering of copper wire in the insulation; tag reel inaccordance with specifications, direct to next operation Detect andreport any unusual conditions, defective materials or other malfunctionsMaintain equipment and work area in a clean and proper condition.Observe safety regulations Ability & willingness to cross-train on othermachines throughout the plant Qualifications High School diploma or GEDKnowledge of ordinary arithmetic including decimals, fractions, andsimple use of specification together with use of adjustable measuringinstruments. Be a team player, enjoy detailed work and willing to learn!Physical Qualifications: Position requires moderate physical effortconsisting of frequent moving, average weights, lifting up to 50 lbs.,pushing, pulling etc. Long periods of standing Continuous mental andvisual attention to repetitive work, requiring constant alertness oractivity.
