Position overview:
The Shift Manager wiill be a key member of the Production Team, reporting to the Production Manager. This role will be responsible for contributing to the success of Ball by ensuring that all activities on shift are undertaken in such a manner that quality, efficiency, safety and environment standards are achieved and maintained.
Key responsibilites include:
Providing leadership to the shift personnel and support the development of effective team working
Achieving results through leadership and coaching, utilising Total Quality and Continuous Improvements methods
Operating in close liaison with Quality function to ensure that our Customers are not compromised in any manner, and we become the preferred suppliers through quality and consistency of product
Encouraging and supporting all continuous improvements activities
Assuming full responsibility for the plant and its operations in the absence of the other senior personnel
Supervising of all the shift personnel ensuring the most efficient and effective use of resources
Ensuring that management systems and all procedures are being adhered to at all times which includes addressing any non-compliance and, if need be, reporting same to relevant health, safety and environment legislation
Ensure that corrective actions are identified and expedited in a controller manner where manufacturing problems arise
Promoting and maintenaning of good industrial relations in conjunction with Production Manager / Plant Manager / HR Manager
Adopting the principles of the Ball Corporation and ICA and providing positive and corrective feedback to team members
Working with HR function to manage and build strong relationship with employee representative groups
Experience and skills required:
Degree in Manufacturing or Engineering related fields
Job related experience for minimum 5 years in a high speed, high volume production environment
Proven track record in over achieving KPIs and Operational Targets
Good understanding of modern lean manufacturing techniques (SMED, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Structured problem solving, TPM/OEE)
Experience in handling Industrial Relations issues
Fluent in written and verbal English
