About Senior Principal Scientist, Amazon Software Builder Experience (ASBX)

  Description

The Amazon Software Builder Experience (ASBX) organization was created in February 2022 with the mission to make Amazon Earth’s best employer for software builders. Our team works with leaders, bringing data and insights, ensuring a culture of software builder obsession that permeates every corner of Amazon. Amazon has one of the largest and most diverse software communities on the planet. Our tens of thousands software builders work across dozens of industries and tech domains (ecommerce, streaming media, health care, satellites, robotic, devices, cloud infra, managed cloud services, and so much more). This is an opportunity to be the lead scientist for ASBX. Changing the software builder experience here will have impact like that at no other company, unlocking the innovation and improvements for hundreds of millions of customers worldwide.

  Key job responsibilities

Are you excited about making it easier for builders to innovate and create great software? If so, Amazon Software Builder Experience (ASBX) may be the place for you. Created in 2022, ASBX has the mission of creating the world’s best builder experience across tens of thousands of software engineers across all of Amazon. We work to unlock their ability to build software for hundreds of millions of customers across dozens of technology domains (cloud, commerce, devices, advertising, media, drones, logistics, and much more).

As a Sr Principal Scientist, you will act as the Empirical Software Development and Software Analytics expert across all of Amazon. You will set the vision for how we use science research to understand all aspects of the software development process (from Day-1 onboarding to operation at scales of millions of transactions per second). You will connect science and technical strategies, enabling us to turn insights into actions for improvement across thousands of software teams. Leveraging your expertise in both theory and practice of Empirical Software Development, you will be a strategic advisor to executives across Amazon, including key members of Amazon’s S-teams. Your practical, clinical advice will drive improvements in how we manage, build, and operate software at Amazon-scale.

You will see around corners and identify business problems that may impact how we build software a few years out. You will explore problems that are unique and unsolved (at scales seen by few others), proposing and delivering solutions that translate scientific research and business judgment into actions that improve practices of software development across Amazon. You will lead writing efforts of notable internal or external publications that validate originality, inspiring new lines of research in the practice of software development, inspiring internal and external science communities.

With your reputation in advancing current science your impact will be beyond your immediate research circles to influence research in adjacent disciplines and beyond. Your experience in identifying and delivering mechanisms will improve scientific knowledge integration into how we practice software development.
