Summary:
The Senior Manager - Planning & Control is responsible for leading the SIO Budget, Mid-Year Forecast, and Long Range Planning activities for assigned departments/legal entities. Also responsible for G&A controlling for Finance, Legal, General Management, Facilities, and expenses. This position plans and directs all aspects of the forecasting processes in accordance with Corporate deadlines involving technical proficiency in understanding accounting issues and processes, critical thinking as it relates to the impact of changes on the business, independent judgment, and interpersonal skills. Executes an efficient, accurate, and reliable forecasting function to keep management focused on the appropriate business decisions and allocations of resources to optimize the business' future performance. This position adopts the SIO Finance culture of teamwork, open communication, and establishment of strong partnerships with our customers in general and project management.
Primary responsibilities for the role:
Leads the SIO Budget, the Mid-Year Forecast, the Long-Range Plan, and similar budget/forecasting exercises for assigned areas.
Identify opportunities to further improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the financial planning process
Lead process improvement projects to drive functional excellence
Coordinate the ongoing/monthly controlling process, including period-end closing and reporting, latest estimates, and annual budgets (including ad hoc requests)
Prepare management reporting packages that track and monitor ongoing business performance for spending and headcount
Analyze risks and opportunities and propose and track roadmap actions to deliver target
Provides US Tax Department with various customized and auditable forecasts needed to support the required US quarterly tax provision accounting entries
Manages and validates the forecast information is properly loaded and reported in the SAP and BI reporting modules used globally throughout the company
Leads projects and provides advice to IT on improving, modifying, or implementing new IT systems which impact the Finance organization
Coordinate system implementation or process changes within the SIO in assigned areas
Leverage existing systems such as SAP and BW in regions / global functions to further automate the reporting and process
Additional Responsibilities:
Required to consistently prioritize multiple activities and coordinate processes across a diverse organization efficiently and effectively. Develop a very quick understanding of the SIO Finance conceptual model, operations, governance and decision-making structures, and culture to make sound judgments and recommendations to management. Deals with multiple legal entities, multiple divisions/business units, locations, and levels of management and will require superior communication, strategic, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Continuously assess current processes and suggest and implement workable improvements. Responsible for forecasting budgets with spend in excess of $100M
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Advanced knowledge in the areas of financial processes and management in the BioPharma industry. In-depth knowledge of financial statement accounting and reporting. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Strong oral and written communication skills. Effective project management skills. Strong organizational skills. Ability to handle multiple issues/tasks concurrently. Ability to comprehend complex accounting issues and processes. Strong ability to synthesize issues and develop concise presentations. Ability to work through others to accomplish goals & objectives. Expert proficiency in MS Office suite programs (Excel and Powerpoint) and financial software (SAP, BI, etc).
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required.
CPA or Master's degree preferred.
Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience in financial planning or controlling, in a profitable US publicly traded Pharmaceutical and/or Biotechnology company.
Equivalency:
Depending on the area of assignment, directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience and/or competencies may be considered in place of the stated requirements. Example: If a job level requires a Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of experience, an equivalency could include 8 years of experience, an Associate’s degree with 6 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 2 years of experience.
