FM Global Cargo is a division of the FM Global Group providing comprehensive, flexible ocean and inland coverage and risk engineering services tailored to our client's international trade and transportation needs. Our Parsippany, NJ office has an immediate opening for a Senior Cargo Claims Specialist.
The incumbent is accountable for the examination, investigation, adjustment, and disposition of all reported claims arising from all forms of Cargo coverages written through FM Global and acceptance of the associated fiduciary responsibility and trust in accordance with assigned authorization levels. He/she identifies and protects recovery potential throughout the loss handling process and pursuit of responsible parties (assisted by outside expertise as needed). In addition, the incumbent, manages and directs activities of outside experts, including our dedicated third-party agents, WK Webster & Co. Ltd., as well as accountants, legal counsel, and other professionals on a national and international level, to assure they are used effectively and in compliance with company standards and practices. He/she assists Cargo Operations by serving as a member of account teams. Also, assists the account team in establishing and maintaining long term relationships with the client. He/she may supervise Cargo Claim Specialists on smaller losses as they gain experience.
Responsibilities:
The incumbent is accountable for the examination, investigation,adjustment, and disposition of claims arising from all forms of Cargo coverages written through FM Global and acceptance of the associated fiduciary responsibility and trust in accordance with assigned authorization levels. This assures that all payments are made within the scope of coverage provided, which is to the benefit of FM Global, its reinsurers and our clients.
Identify and protect recovery potential throughout the loss handling process, and pursuit of responsible parties (assisted by outside expertise as needed). This helps to mitigate the loss exposure to the benefit of both the Company and the Client.
Where authority has been granted from the Cargo Claims Manager, he/she will select, manage, and direct activities of outside experts, including independent adjusters, accountants, legal counsel, and other professionals on a national and international level, to assure they are used effectively and in compliance with company standards and practices. This assures that the cost of adjusting these losses is as efficient as possible and that these consultants operate within the Companies guidelines and in a manner that meets the Client's satisfaction, to the extent possible.
Assists the Cargo management team with activities involving interfacing with other 10% disciplines and/or policyholders as needed. This includes articipating in pre-loss visits and policy holder workshops. This will result in greater internal customer satisfaction and a better understanding on the part of clients regarding what to expect when they make claim under their policy.
WK Webster is the assigned independent adjuster for all FM Global Cargo claims and has limited authority to handle and settle claims directly with our clients. The incumbent will supervise WK Webster on all claims and is responsible for handling general inquiries, coverage questions, status inquiries and related correspondence.
The incumbent keeps the client advised of progress via timely letters. Disagreements relating to coverage and measurement disputes shall be brought to the attention of the Cargo Claims Manager for review and action.
Negotiates with the client to reconcile differences of opinion relating to the extent of loss and/or coverage to reach a timely, equitable and fair settlement. When a loss is settled, he/she presents the claim with his/her recommendations for payment to Cargo Claims Manager for final review and approval.
Brings disagreements relating to coverage disputes to the attention of the Cargo Claims Manager for review and action.
Qualifications:
Education
Bachelors Degree or equivalent
Experience
A minimum of 5 years of experience with exposure to cargo/marine coverage, preferably including 2 years in claims/adjustments.
Skills and aptitudes
Good knowledge of cargo coverages and claims.
Experience with subrogation and salvage recoveries.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to negotiate, handle coverage issues and at times have difficult conversations.Working knowledge of accounting and finance.
A good understanding of information technology.
Organized and able to make quick and sound decisions.
The hiring range for this position is $100,400 - $144,300.The final salary offer will vary based on individual education, skills, and experience.
