Job Summary
The IEEE Awards team manages the IEEE Board of Directors' (BoD) Awards Program, the highest-level awards presented by IEEE that recognize excellence in technical and professional communities worldwide. Through its $3.0M BoD Awards Program, IEEE advances the interests of its members by recognizing their contributions in advancing IEEE fields of interest, celebrating technological triumphs, and inspiring future innovators to positively impact our world.
The overall purpose of the Senior Awards Program Specialist position is to contribute to enhancing the visibility, prestige and impact of IEEE through its Awards Program. The incumbent's efforts will have a direct impact on the department's ability to achieve the objectives of the IEEE Awards Program and the IEEE as a whole. This pro-active team member, who is both opportunistic and strategic in his/her approach, will manage the award committees that are responsible for recommending recipients for the highest awards in the IEEE awards portfolio that are presented by the IEEE President or designee on behalf of the Board of Directors. In addition, the incumbent will manage committee and nomination/selection activities, volunteer relations, and other duties as assigned.
This position reports to the Senior Manager, Awards Activities and does not manage any direct reports but influences the work of others. He/she is authorized to approve purchases, contracts and expenditures up to $20,000 for IEEE and the IEEE Foundation. The incumbent must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal guidance in a team environment, as well as independently.
Key Responsibilities Awards Committee and Nomination/Selection Activities (90%) Manages approximately half of the current number of award selection committees for the approximately 60 awards (Medals, Technical Field Awards and Recognitions). These committees are responsible for recommending recipients for the highest awards in the IEEE awards portfolio. These awards are presented by the IEEE President or designee on behalf of the Board of Directors. Each of the selection committees meets three times annually via teleconference (over 80 meetings in total). Leads activities of one standing committee of the IEEE Awards Board. Co-leads activities of the Medals; Recognitions; and Technical Field Awards Councils Ensures that Awards program procedures and evaluation processes are carried out in a fair and equitable manner Collaborates with selection committees to seek appropriate candidates and confirming that nominations and endorsements are timely to move nominations forward Interfaces with Award selection committee chairs to craft agendas, and to create and review agenda items Authors meeting minutes/reports for awards selection committees Pursues opportunities to promote the Awards program Communicates to the awards webmaster any recommended enhancements or required modifications to award committee web pages Provides timely and accurate responses to IEEE volunteers, nominators, endorsers and staff on awards matters that are compliant with IEEE Bylaws, Policies, and the Awards Board Operations Manual Collaborates with the awards team, the members of the IEEE Awards Board, its Committees, and IEEE organizational units to achieve the goals of the IEEE and the IEEE Awards Program. Other Duties (10%) Assists the Senior Manager, Awards Activities, with Awards Board and standing committee activities Promotes the Awards Program while attending select Technical Field Awards presentations Attends the IEEE Honors Ceremony, as needed, to assist with on-site activities Manages other departmental projects as assigned to accomplish the organizations’ goals
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience relevant field of study or equivalent work experience Req Work Experience

Must be a patient, effective communicator who is able to establish and maintain relationships and skillfully influence and advocate on behalf of the IEEE Awards Program Must have excellent analytical, technical and project management skills Demonstrated aptitude for effectively and efficiently working with volunteer Boards and Committees for high-impact results Positive, proactive work attitude and ability to excel in fast-moving work environment with changing priorities Skilled at crafting and delivering persuasive presentations and written materials Must possess excellent time management, organizational and interpersonal/communication skills Must be able to work well under deadlines and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously Must be fluent in business English and capable of speaking effectively on the telephone and in person-to-person situations Must demonstrate the highest degree of professionalism when dealing with sensitive and/or confidential matters Must be a technologically savvy worker who seeks out solutions to business challenges. Mastery of Microsoft Office programs required and mastery of Google Apps for Business preferred . Must be able to work during weekends and/or evenings as necessary Ability to travel up to 5% of year outside of local region Other Requirements:
