  SUMMARY

  Operation of plant equipment in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with plant procedures and technical specifications.

  EDUCATION

  High School/GED or equivalent (Required) Associates degree in science, mathematics, or technology program, (preferably) Mechanical or Operations Technology. Navy nuclear power plant experience may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement. (Preferred)EXPERIENCE

  2 Years + (minimum 3 years) responsible power plant experience; preferably at least one year spent performing non-license duties at the nuclear power plant for which the license is sought. Navy Nuclear experience considered as responsible prior plant experience. (Required)LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS

  Reactor Operator (Required) General Employee Training 1, 2, 3 and 4 (including respirator) (Required)

  Texas Driver’s license (Required)

  ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES OPERATION OF POWER PLANT CONTROLS:

  Operates the controls of the nuclear power plant to avoid accidents and to mitigate the consequences of any postulated accidents. Operates controls in accordance with the plant operating license and technical specifications. Diagnoses plant status and initiates corrective action based on available information. Uses plant procedures and technical specifications to implement appropriate actions under normal, abnormal, outage, and emergency plant conditions. Monitors and tests plant equipment, maintains logs, and completes appropriate paperwork. Ensures equipment and personnel safety through equipment clearance order program. Acts as NRC communicator as part of emergency response duties and performs briefings and attends meetings as needed.

  NRC REACTOR OPERATOR LICENSING & TRAINING:

  Successfully completes initial training and maintains NRC License to ensure compliance with all operating standards. Demonstrates understanding of the concepts, philosophy, and responsibilities with respect to reactivity management and reactor core safety. Demonstrates knowledge of systems and components of controls over which operators have responsibility and control. Performs "On-The-Job" training as appropriate to role and successfully completes required continuing training. Maintains all required position qualifications.

  TEAMWORK - CONTROL ROOM SHIFT TEAM:

  Effectively controls and coordinates activities and serves as an effective member of the control room shift team. Communicates effectively with team members and constructively manages conflict within the control room shift team and with other plant personnel. Anticipates and recognizes error-likely situations and effectively addresses concerns with those involved. Asks questions to obtain needed information to perform the tasks of the job. Follows and supports command, control, and leadership directives and is committed to achieve team and station goals. Engages in self-critique of individual and team performance.

  OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  Accept ERO position as needed.

  Accept outage position as needed. Note: For further information, please refer to ACAD Guidelines for Initial Training and Qualifications for Licensed Operators.

  SPECIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND QUALIFICATIONS

  Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access. Ability to meet and maintain requirements for NRC Reactor Operator license and to maintain proficiency and complete requalification training and examination program good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read and interpret schematics and system drawings and to use basic algebra to solve formulas used in operation procedures. Ability to operate a computer terminal and use current database software. Ability to respond to visual and auditory signals from control panels.

  WORKING CONDITIONS

  Overtime and alternate work schedules as needed. Subject to callouts twenty-four hours per day seven days per week. Initial training will be in a classroom environment. Training is intensive and will require study outside of normal working hours. Training will include rotating shift assignments in the plant to complete On-the-Job training requirements and simulator sessions conducted during weekends. Wear a respirator, including a self-contained breathing apparatus. Requires the ability to work under stress. Must access all areas of the plant (includes extensive walking, stooping, climbing and exposure to heat).
