Job Summary:The Respiratory Therapist coordinates the care of patients with physicians, nurses, families, and other caregivers. The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for assessing, recommending, and following a pathway of therapy which may include invasive and non-invasive procedures. Obtaining and documenting diagnostic data are also required. The Respiratory Therapist supports and educates patient families/caregivers who must deal with acute and chronic respiratory conditions, and the psychosocial aspects of the condition.
What You Will Do:
Coordinates the care of patients with physicians, nurses, family, and other caregivers. Assesses, recommends and follows a pathway of therapy which may include invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, airway management, intubation assist, high and low flow humidification, medication administration, oxygen therapy, incentive spirometry, PEP therapy, coughing and breathing exercises, chest physical therapy, cardio/pulmonary rehabilitation and patient education including smoking cessation.Obtains and documents diagnostic data such as arterial blood gasses and co-oximetry, pulmonary function, cardiac stress testing, cardiac event monitoring, pulse oximetry and desaturation studies, and ECG's.Supports and educates patient families/caregivers who must deal with acute and chronic respiratory conditions and the psychosocial aspects of the condition.Participates in hospital committees and teams as appropriatePerforms other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications for the Job:
Education:Graduation from an approved school of respiratory therapy. (An approved school is one accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC)). An Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited college is also required.Experience:A minimum of 18 months of recent respiratory therapy experience in an acute care facility, with 3 years preferred.Certification(s):Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) licensure and/or a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credentialed by The National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC)Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR. NRP certification is required within six months of hire.Internal Hires:Pay rate will be determined based on applicable personnel rule or union contract terms.
