This new assessment leverages the value of storytelling to provide a culturally and linguistically responsive, highly engaging interactive experience that directly informs instructional practices in a technology-based game experience. This position is a one-year position (January 2024- January 2025), renewable based on funding. This IGDI Lab project is funded by the Gates Foundation and is a partnership between the IGDI Lab at the University of Minnesota, the University of Oregon, Fablevision Studios (a game-based production studio), and Soapbox Learning (speech-recognition technology). This position will work directly with the project team across multiple sites to plan, coordinate, and contribute to activities of the I-SPEAK assessment project. The individual in this position will work directly with the principal investigators to develop project-specific work plans for two phases of this work, expected to occur between January and December of 2024. This project will build a technology-enhanced storybook assessment that is equity-focused at its core. We will leverage community-based participatory research design which engages the community for design guidance and feedback, centers Black/African American and Spanish speaking children's experience and uses self reflection to build an assessment designed with its intended users. The Researcher 3 will be hired to contribute to the IGDI Lab's ISPEAK project. The position requires an interest in and knowledge of early childhood assessment and education, educational technology, and engaging in community-based participatory research. We are seeking a individual with lived experiences that can inform the design process and have significant experience with the target communities. Job Responsibilities Project Design (40%) Support the development of the new I-SPEAK assessment, including attending and contributing to team meetings, contributing to content ideation and developing specific knowledge related to iterative integration from community feedback. Contribute to dissemination products including technical reports. Engage in ongoing educational equity and antiracism work through individual and group learning Communicate with IGDI Lab staff, attend all meetings Enter data and run basic quantitative descriptive analysis as well as engage in thematic qualitative analysis, contribute to team effort to triangulate findings. Take notes at meetings and provide additional meeting support. Community Based Research (60%) Gather contextual and programmatic information about the project context and implementation from site partners. Assist in focus group recruitment, data collection with communities, including members of our Community Insight Consortium (CIC). Other duties as assigned. This position may work remotely but may be requested to meet with our team in the IGDI Lab offices at the Education Sciences building. Qualifications Required Qualifications BS/BA and 2 year of related experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience to equal (6) years. Experience in community based participatory research, educational psychology, multilingual education or early childhood education. Experience with data collection and research methods Experience with literature reviews Desire to work with educators, families, and young children in community Experience in building and maintaining collaborative relationships with both university-based research partners and community-based early childhood research participants (e.g. families, schools, childcare centers etc.) Professional writing skills, including research reports, pee reviewed research articles as well as community-facing dissemination reports. reviewed research articles, or other print and electronic publication Attention to detail and autonomous worker Demonstrated commitment to advocating for an inclusive environment for all backgrounds and identities.
