  Job Description Summary

  The translational head and neck cancer program at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine and the Abramson Cancer center is seeking Research Specialist to join our team. The Research Specialist will assist our preclinical efforts to test and develop novel therapies against human papilloma virus (HPV)-related head and neck cancer. The successful candidate will participate in developing, conducting, and troubleshooting in vivo experiments using mouse models of head and neck cancer. Other roles include collecting and recording data and providing lab managerial assistance under the supervision of the PI in the laboratory. Occasional weekend/evenings required. Demonstrated experience in working with rodent models conducting engraftment experiments is required.

  Job Description

  The primary role of the Research Specialist B will be to support all aspects of studies in mice that test novel targeted therapies against head and neck cancer. Specifically, the job includes assistance with mouse tumor engraftment, administering investigational treatments, and monitoring response. In addition, the Research Specialist will assist with harvesting mouse tumor blood, marrow, and lymphoid organs and performing immune profiling analysis.

  In addition, a major responsibility will be to organize and facilitate daily laboratory operations, including train and supervising students and others in basic laboratory techniques and use of facilities and equipment; ensure compliance with safety and other (IACUC, IRB) regulated standards; supply and equipment ordering and maintenance; evaluation and selection of laboratory equipment; supervise lab stock inventories.

  Excellent analytical and decision-making skills are expected. Strong organizational skills, reliability, the ability to work independently, and good interpersonal skills are essential. Some prior experience in rodent experiments is beneficial. Candidate should be motivated to learn new technologies and must possess the ability to coordinate many activities concurrently. Basic knowledge of cell culture and general molecular biology procedures is essential. Experience in FACS analysis, primary human immune cells, cell and tissue harvest, RNA-sequencing, and immunohistochemistry are additional assets.

  Qualifications:

  Research Specialist B- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree and 1 to 3 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

  Research Specialist C Job Responsibilities

  The Research Specialist C position will perform the duties outlined for the Research Specialist B position, with the additional expectation that the candidate will work more independently to develop and design experiments and analyze data and have more extensive expertise in a broader range of laboratory procedures. This individual will also be expected to participate in multiple ongoing projects, including developing collaborative research with other labs at the University.

  Qualifications:

  Research Specialist C - The minimum of a Bachelor's degree and 3 to 5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Master's degree is a plus.

  The position is contingent upon continued funding.
