Position Summary:
The Scientist will support the Research Process Development Group with a lab-based focus on molecular and physical separations. The Scientist will work within diverse technical teams to develop downstream refinery processes for new products and to support existing production processes through troubleshooting and continuous improvement activities. The Scientist will be responsible for operating bench and pilot scale equipment, performing sample analysis, and maintaining labs and equipment in clean and safe condition. The Scientist will also be responsible for developing methods and experimental plans, and will collect, interpret, and report data.
Job Responsibilities:
Develop and apply competency in microfiltration and membrane filtration, ion exchange, resin and carbon adsorption, simulated moving bed chromatography, centrifugation, and other solid/liquid and affinity-based separations technologies.
Design and conduct experiments with the assistance of senior scientists and engineers.
Develop and review experimental methods, SOPs, and run sheets that capture all necessary technical and experimental details.
Use wet chemistry and instrumental techniques for sample characterization.
Carefully collect, consolidate, document, interpret, and communicate data. Prepare reports and presentations for project technical teams.
Maintain lab and pilot equipment in clean and safe working condition.
Closely observe safety standards, including but not limited to those related to chemical and allergen contact, flammable liquids, high pressures, high temperatures, high pressure steam, high voltage equipment, and physical strain.
Job Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree in a laboratory science
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Careful attention to details
Ability to handle heavy tools and materials, e.g. carry 5 gallon buckets and move 55 gallon drums and 250 gallon totes with hand-carts and pallet jacks
Ability to work for long periods in warm and humid environments
