GE Aerospace Research has a long history of innovating materials & architectures for a wide variety of technologies and applications. As a Research Scientist in the field of materials, you will conduct basic and applied research on developing advanced application of materials aligned to GE Aerospace. In this role, you will work both independently and with various teams to innovate design & development of materials, coatings, repair & rejuvenation technologies for new product introduction, production, and field service.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced research scientist with expertise in aircraft engine materials technologies, including ceramic and high temperature materials, composites & coatings. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research and development projects related to material development, processes and testing with a focus on improving engine performance, reliability, and durability.
Job Description
Responsibilities:
Ensure laboratory safety through meticulous adherence to protocols, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and fostering a secure environment for research activities
Design, plan, and execute research projects related to aircraft engine materials and repair technologies, including ceramics, high temperature materials, composites and coatings
Evaluate and analyze engine components to identify damage, wear, and degradation mechanisms
Develop and optimize materials & processes for engine components, including materials selection, process parameters, and performance testing
Develop and apply ceramic coatings to engine components to enhance performance, durability, and reliability
Collaborate with other scientists, engineers, and technicians to develop and test new materials, processes, and coating technologies
Utilize advanced analytical techniques, including spectroscopy, microscopy, and surface analysis, to understand the fundamental mechanisms of engine component degradation and repair
Present research findings to internal teams, business stakeholders, scientific conferences and meetings
Develop intellectual property through invention disclosures and patent applications
Manage and mentor junior researchers and technicians
Qualifications:
M.Sc/M.Tech/MS with 3 years of experience or PhD in material science, mechanical engineering, or related field
Experience conducting research and development in aircraft engine materials and repair technologies, including ceramic coatings, and composites
Strong understanding of materials science and characterization
Experience with advanced analytical techniques, including spectroscopy, microscopy, surface analysis, materials testing and fracture analysis
Experience with materials selection, process development, and performance testing
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Strong record of scientific publications and conference presentations
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage research projects and teams
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality
Experience with intellectual property landscape & development is a plus
