Grade 3 Wage Range Minimum $18.56 Midpoint $23.23 Maximum $27.85Position Description:Immediate opening for a Research Assistant II or III position is available in the Center for Cardiometabolic Science/Envirome Institute studying the effects of inflammation and its resolution in cardiovascular disease. Position title will be determined by education, experience, and qualifications.A successful candidate will work independently, under general supervision, to execute a variety of routine and non-routine experiments at a professional level. In collaboration with other members of the research team, will give input to the development of design protocols and will calculate, transcribe, and analyze data. May be responsible for orienting and training new staff.Excellent organizational and communication skills and ability to work with a highly interactive group is required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Independently performs routine and non-routine experiments, which are moderate to complex. Tests may include those involving immunologic phenotyping (e.g., flow cytometry) and basic biochemical analyses (e.g., chromatography, PCR, ELISA, Western blotting).Assist with experiments and breeding/colony maintenance of research animals (i.e., mice).Calculates, transcribes and analyzes data which requires a high degree of computer literacy.May maintain long-term tissue cultures of rodent or human cell lines and monitor cells for viability and contamination.Performs literature searches and helps to prepare presentations and written articles for publication.In collaboration with PI or Research Manager, establishes new and modifies existing research techniques.Coordinates schedule of tests and procedures.Coordinates lab activities such as infection control, radiation safety, and biosafety activities.All other duties as assigned.Preferred Qualifications:Prior experience in a basic science biomedical research laboratory setting.Familiarity with Flow Cytometry (sample preparation and analysis).Bachelor's degree or degree in biology, biochemistry, zoology or related scientific field.One year of directly related work experience. Intellectual curiosity and a willingness to learn new skills.
