  Job Description

  The Iowa Library for the Blind and Print Disabled within the Iowa Department for the Blind located in Des Moines, Iowa is seeking applicants for the position of receptionist.

  Job Description

  60% Iowa Department for the Blind, Iowa Library for the Blind and Print Disabled and Instructional Materials Center Services

  Provides information and explains services and eligibility requirements to internal and external customers.

  Greets visitors during front desk shifts to assist with inquiries, directions to meetings and contacting staff regarding visitors.

  Manages the receiving and shipping of packages and materials.

  Assist with the circulation of library materials.

  Assist in researching and ordering materials for Instructional Material Center requests.

  Searches library collection, on-line databases, and other sources to determine if materials are available in requested media.

  Uses the library collection, catalog and resources to guide patrons to reading materials and information sources.

  Manage patron accounts through the use of the library’s integrated library systems.

  Participates in Department and Library projects and programs.

  40% Instructional Materials Center Accessible Educational Materials Production

  Embosses braille documents and tactiles using braille embossers.

  Completes braille projects by bursting and binding materials, use of forms-cutter, interleaving tactiles, inserting print title pages and use of the comb binder.

  Assists in the creation of print/braille and other accessible materials.

  Organizes and tracks materials in the library's Production Tracking System (currently Athena).

  Other Competencies

  Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgement.

  Attention to detail.

  Ability to work alone with minimal supervision, with others in a team environment and collaborate.

  Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.

  Confident user of digital hardware and software.

  Knowledge of the structure and content of the English Language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

  Compensation

  The hiring salary range is $30,222.40 - $43,056.00 and starting pay is determined by meeting minimum qualifications. You begin at the lower range, with potential increases based on each year of related experience above the minimum qualifications.

  Schedule

  Monday through Friday 8:00 A.M. – 4:30 P.M.

  Minimum Qualification Requirements

  The equivalent of one year of full-time experience in general office, sales, reception, tour guide or related work experience which involved direct and regular contact with people;

  OR

  graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalency;

  OR

  satisfactory completion of a recognized job-related training course at the high school or equivalent level (MDTA, CEP, WIN, etc.) for the required experience.
