About SHIPFITTER LEADER

  Summary You will serve as a SHIPFITTER LEADER in the Structural Shop (Code 920), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will coordinate work while assuring proper inter-trade and inter-shop coordination. You will provide on the job training for workers under your leadership. You will correct improper shipfitter work methods, ensure assigned work procedures, such as TGI’s, process instructions and work related shipyard instructions and processes are being followed. You will plan and execute the sequence of work tasks, utilizing information from blueprints, sketches and work documents. You will maintain normal production work procedures, TGI’s and shift reports, for personnel under your leadership. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE, such as: Experience performing, directing and leading the work progress of other Shipfitter mechanics, workers, helpers and apprentices. Experience utilizing shipfitter systems and equipment. Experience utilizing knowledge of equipment structures, material, etc. associated with submarine shipfitting operations. Experience interpreting blueprints, instructions, and specifications as well as experience with pattern and layout development associated with submarine structures and equipment.
