Overview:
There is one Mechanic II opening with the Yakima County ER&R (Equipment Rental & Revolving) Division. This position is responsible for performing journey level maintenance and repair of county automotive and heavy equipment; troubleshoots, diagnoses and repairs equipment malfunctions; provide preventative maintenance services; fabricates and repairs wearing and operating parts and monitors equipment to ensure it is in safe working order.

Responsibilities:
Essential Duties:
Performs preventive maintenance activities for County automotive vehicles and heavy equipment.
Performs maintenance and repairs on automotive vehicles and heavy equipment; replaces air, hydraulic and anti-lock brakes; repairs transmissions; works on electrical systems; repairs heating and cooling systems; and repairs engines.
Diagnoses and troubleshoots vehicle and heavy equipment problems in the shop and in the field. Operates or transports equipment back to shop for repair.
Designs and fabricates equipment parts not readily available including welding fatigued or failed components, converting equipment to meet seasonal needs and adding modifications to existing equipment.
Provides technical advice to others working in the shop and monitors shop equipment to ensure that the equipment is in safe working order.

Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or GED AND six (6) years automotive and heavy equipment maintenance experience OR six (6) years' experience in welding, metal design and fabrication, automotive repair and heavy equipment maintenance; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

valid WA State Commercial Driver's License Class A with Airbrake Endorsement;ability to obtain a valid State of Washington Flagger Certification required for County Road assignments within 30 days of hire;successful completion of general employment verification;consent for queries of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse to comply with Federal Regulations (49 CFR Part 382); and,pre-employment drug screening.* *
Preferred:
Associate Degree in diesel technology or related field from an approved automotive program and 4 years automotive and/or heavy equipment maintenance experience.Welding and metal fabrication experience.* *
