Description of Work Unit
The School of Music, Theatre and Dance ( SMTD ) has 36 tenured and tenure-track faculty as well as 40 adjunct faculty. There are currently over 550 students in SMTD , with 311 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in music degree programs.
The University Center for the Arts is a nationally recognized state-of the art 350,000 square foot facility, that includes a 550-seat concert hall, a 275-seat organ and chamber music recital hall, a 320-seat thrust theatre, a 100-seat black box theatre, a 200-seat dance theatre, dedicated rehearsal, production, and research spaces, along with classrooms, labs, and practice rooms.

Position Summary
The Colorado State University School of Music, Theatre, and Dance is seeking a half-time Communications Assistant for immediate hire. This position serves to support the SMTD Communications Team in the promotion of events, academic programs, and recruitment of students. Duties will require occasional work on evenings and weekends.
Required Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution plus two years of professional or academic publicity/marketing experience
Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following: public relations, marketing, event management, data base management, website software (WordPress), CMS , professional use of social media
Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following: communications, English/writing, journalism, performing arts (music, theatre, and dance), and graphic design
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Effective written and oral communication skills
Professional experience in an academic setting
Knowledge of performing arts terminology
Preferred Job Qualifications
Advanced degree in Communications, Writing, English, Marketing, or related field.
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite

Duty/Responsibility
Communications Support:
Serves as point person for all incoming communications requests from SMTD faculty and staff.
Generates and maintains communications schedule of SMTD news and events (i.e. email, The Green Room, Performance Guide, newsletter, and social media).
Manages distribution of communications materials. Oversees scheduling, printing, and delivery of campus/community poster runs, recruiting materials, and mailings, etc.
Proofreads all event publicity, recruiting, and alumni engagement related materials.
Distributes all event publicity, recruiting, and alumni engagement related materials.
Coordinates student takeovers of SMTD accounts.
Collects and organizes SMTD news about alumni, donors, faculty, staff, and students; details will be utilized for generating stories for inclusion in digital and traditional channels.
Assists in the production of student, faculty, alumni, and donor news/stories that promote interest in events, engagement opportunities, and degree programs.
Communications includes event publicity, recruiting of potential students, and alumni engagement. Duties specific to each area are components of the overarching communications support and include:
Publicity Support
Supports the overall publicity efforts of SMTD .
Generates and manages publicity plan timeline and schedules.
Maintain advertising opportunities and deadlines, including annual entry of audition information in industry publications.
Enter SMTD events into campus and community calendars.
Gathers event descriptions from faculty. Organizes and maintains event descriptions and images in preparation for each semester’s publicity materials.
Generates and distributes event press releases.
Schedules all poster run and digital signage reservations both on-campus and in the community.
Distributes performance event information to relevant target markets (i.e. K-12 schools, university departments, organizations, media outlets, etc.) and online calendars.
