Summary About the Position: This position provides emergency response dispatching of law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment. At the full performance, GS-07, the incumbent will: Receive and evaluate 911 emergency calls to identify nature of emergency and level of response. Dispatch emergency response units, such as police, fire and emergency medical personnel and equipment. Maintain an accurate status of all emergency response equipment and personnel to assure prompt and accurate response. Provide emergency medical dispatching (EMD) assistance to callers with medical emergencies using emergency medical dispatch system. OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. To qualify at the GS-06 grade level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience receiving and evaluating emergency calls; and questioning callers to determine problem/nature of call to dispatch appropriate personnel and equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). To qualify at the GS-07 grade level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience receiving and evaluating 911 calls; determine problem/nature of call in order to dispatch appropriate emergency personnel and equipment; and providing basic instructions prior to arrival of responders.
