Job Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position.
Receives, reviews for accuracy, coordinates, and issues property receipts. Notifies and facilitates officer corrections, and maintains log of all pending incorrect impoundments, utilizing “right of refusal”.
Responsible for the security of items within the property storage facilities, including temporary storage lockers, temporary cold storage lockers, temporary bulk cages, Bag & Tag safe, General storage, Bulk storage, safes, refrigerator/freezer, F/A Storage, and D/P Storage. Restricts access to Property and Evidence areas, maintains entry logs, and uses the “Two Person Rule”, when applicable.
Enters data into the Property & Evidence tracking system, teletype FCIC/NCIC inquiries, Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms E-Trace firearm searches. FDLE FES searches and finds property legal notices; whether automated and/or manual.
Serves as liaison for evidence and property matters between agency and other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. Responsible for the temporary issue and/or transfer of items to other agencies, the court system, Laboratories, officers, and investigators, while maintaining a chain of custody for the return of items, according to all applicable laws, policies, procedures, and accreditation standards.
Trains new officers on Property & Evidence procedures. Provide staff with continual updates related to changes and enhancements. Provides aid and guidance to additional Property personnel and/or volunteers.
Manages all responsibilities f ollowing all applicable laws, policies, procedures, and accreditation standards.
Performs other related tasks as required.
The Selection Process:
The duration of the selection process is approximately 2 to 5 months. The process involves the following: (1) Online application and Panel Interview (2) Polygraph exam (3) Background Investigation (4) Physical Exam and Drug Screening and (5) Approval by the Hiring Board.
The Reapplication Process:
An applicant who does not pass the panel interview or is disqualified during the Extended Background phase, may reapply one year from the date of their online application.
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED plus two years experience in positions requiring meticulous record keeping work.
A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum education qualifications.

HOLIDAYS: 14 days including 3 floating days.
SICK LEAVE: 96 hours annually.
ANNUAL LEAVE: 80 hours in the first year of employment, increasing up to 188 hours after 25 years. Employees must take 40 hours of annual leave each year.
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: 5 or 10 work days for the death of a family member in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and the City's Personnel Rules & Regulations.
MEDICAL INSURANCE: Fully paid by the City (HMO Select). Coverage becomes effective 1st of month following 30 days. Employee may purchase coverage for eligible dependents at a cost of approximately 50% of the premium.
DENTAL INSURANCE: Available to all employees through payroll deduction.
LIFE INSURANCE : Term Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment equal to 1 x annual salary, fully paid by the City (up to $200,000).
VOLUNTARY BENEFITS: Several plans available, such as Short-Term Disability, Life Insurance and Critical Illness policies through payroll deductions.
LEGAL SERVICES: Legal Service plan available at a cost to employees through payroll deductions.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Employees are given the option to defer a portion of their pre-tax salary into the 457 Deferred Compensation Program.
UNIFORM ALLOWANCE: $500 annually where required in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
TUITION REIMBURSEMENT: $1500 per semester ($6,000 maximum annually) for approved college coursework.
SAFETY GLASSES: Required safety glasses are provided every 2 years.
RECREATIONAL USE: Employee, spouse and immediate family members seventeen (17) years of age and under are entitled to the benefits below:
Venetian Pool – No charge for daily admission.
Tennis Centers – No charge for daily court fees.
Youth Center – 50% off residential rates for memberships and 50% off camps and other programs.
Golf at Biltmore & Granada:
Monday through Friday – no charge.
Saturday, Sunday and Holidays:
- Before Noon – Twilight fees apply - After Noon – No charge (cart fees apply at all times)PENSION: Mandatory employee contribution of 13% of salary. Vesting period is 10 years.
OR
As of 6/14/2016 - DEFINED CONTRIBUTION: 401(a) - Contribution by City of 7% of employee base annual salary. Vesting period 5 years. Employee not required to contribute.
