Role
The Global Workplace and Infrastructure (GWI) team is a multi-disciplinary team responsible for successfully delivery of all facility projects globally. Applied Materials expects over the next five years to have the most exciting and active project pipeline in its history. Our largest and the most important ever undertaken is the recently announced $4B industry-leading R&D lab in Sunnyvale scheduled to begin construction in early 2024. The Project Controls Director is a newly established role within GWI team that will partner with the Project Execution Director and Project Design Director to ensure successful delivery of this project, and subsequently to contribute to other future projects globally.
The Project Controls Director is expected to lead a team of direct reports and/or staff from managed service providers that will be accountable for management of the integrated project schedule, cost and cashflow reporting, purchasing and invoicing controls, budgeting and quantity surveying support, document management and change control, and audit support.
The Project Controls Director will be required to make key decisions and drive project control activities in a fast-paced environment through all phases of the Project lifecycle (i.e. design, contracting, construction, and transition to operations) while collaborating closely with the EHS Leader, Project Risk Manager and Project Management Office (PMO) to report out critical project trends and insights to the Project Leader and Corporate Stakeholders.
The Project Controls Director should be knowledgeable of project management processes across planning, design, construction, startup, testing, commissioning and acceptance of systems and buildings.
The position is based in Sunnyvale and will report to the Managing Director, Strategic Infrastructure.
Additional Responsibilities:
Support with the management of commercial agreements for vendors.
Participate in the planning of facilities and changes for laboratories and equipment layouts.
Monitor build progress and helping make strategic decisions and providing leadership and direction to those decisions.
Supporting the management of risks and identifying mitigation/enhancement plans to avoid delays or reputational damage.
Managing Federal Grant application requirements.
Assesses existing standards and processes, perform gap analysis, evaluate best practices (including tools) and develop roadmap and lead implementation of enhancements.
Support Design and Construction Center of Excellence (COE), which provides oversight for project delivery globally.
The Ideal Candidate will have the Following:
Demonstrated experience as a project controls director accountable for the performance and results of multiple team leads and vendor partnerships.
Experience in the semiconductor or similarly technically complex industry.
Strong executive presence with an ability to communicate with and effectively influence senior leaders.
Demonstrated experience leading and managing contractors, subcontractors, or vendors.
Experience with contract development, administration, and claims management.
Familiar with industry standard construction technology solutions (i.e. cost management systems, BIM 360, SmartSheet, Primavera P6, etc.)
Bachelor's Degree and/or Master’s Degree in Engineering such as Civil, Architecture or Construction or a related field.
Additional Desired Attributes or Beneficial Experience
Knowledge of Permitting requirements, National Electrical Code, Uniform Building Code, and Fire Codes.
Knowledge of Environmental & Safety regulations and requirements.
Knowledge of building control systems and remote energy management systems.
Knowledge of semiconductor facilities systems including but not limited to acid waste and exhaust, solvent waste and exhaust, chilled/condenser water, hot water, process chilled water & DI water, process gases, controls, and monitoring systems.
Knowledge of Fire Life Safety and Gas Life Safety Systems and requirements.

U.S. Salary Range:
$172,000.00 - $236,500.00
The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.
For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
