General Job Description
Endowment Funded Position – continued employment contingent on funding
This is a professional position responsible for the processes of acquisitions, accessions, inventory, conservation, preservation, general collections care and digitization of the Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison Collection in accordance with archival and museum professional standards. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Director of the East Texas Research Center.
Essential Job Functions
Accessions, arranges and describes the collection according to archival and museum standards.
Conducts inventories and creates metadata of the collection using Past Perfect and ArchiveSpace databases.
Assigns accession numbers, complies accession records, classifies and physically numbers materials in the collection.
Identifies signs of deterioration and wear of objects needing preservation or conservation treatment.
Manages the digitization of the collection.
Creates descriptive metadata for digitized material for upload into CONTENTdm, a digital asset management system.
Non-Essential Job Functions

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or, using some other form of skills and abilities, be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
Knowledge of archival and museum professional standards, regulations and best practices including processing archival collections.
Knowledge of digital asset management systems and other applications.
Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
Ability to learn office- and university-specific software.
Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
Physical Demands
Required Education
Master’s degree in a related field is required.
Required Experience and Training
Two years of professional archival and museum experience is required. Demonstrated usage of Past Perfect, ArchiveSpace, and CONTENTdm is required. Familiarity with legislative collections is required. Ability to read cursive handwriting is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional archival and museum experience in an academic or research library is preferred.
Special Conditions for Eligibility
This is a security-sensitive position subject to criminal record check.

Benefit and Retirement Eligibility
This position is eligible for participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
