  At Uber, we work towards building a world-class risk management program. Our success is built on solid data and decisioning platforms, with many innovative products to catch and prevent risk at Uber, while ensuring minimum friction to good users. At its core, Uber helps people connect and move in 70+ countries and 10,000 cities worldwide; with a platform that caters to various operations such as Mobility, Delivery, Freight, and U4B. Due to the complex multi-sided marketplace we operate in, we are prone to various types of fraudulent activities that affect the Uber community as a whole, where our systems are exploited for financial gains. This is when the Risk team at Uber steps in to mitigate abuse using sophisticated ML models, and rule engines involving complex human-in-the-loop solutions.

  The Scaled Operations team at Uber Global Scaled Solutions (GSS) provides tech-enabled operations support for multiple Uber businesses including Rides, Eats, Grocery, Freight, and U4B. The GSS Risk Operations Team (under Scaled Ops) serves the global markets to identify fraudulent behavior that can lead to losses to Uber across the rider, driver, and eater life cycles. The ultimate goal that we link to is to build a comprehensive preventative risk management posture for Uber by building world-class tech capabilities to detect and prevent fraud at scale.

  About the role:

  As a Program Manager in the GSS Risk team, you will be responsible for assessing, monitoring, and preventing established and emergent risks for Uber's mobility and delivery businesses, Also, independently leading multiple risk programs and will be expected to find opportunities to improve risk processes and associated controls, reduce defect rates, and lead technological optimizations with the end goal of improving readiness to detect and respond to ever-evolving risk vectors.

  As a Risk expert, you will be expected to develop the ability to identify fraud signals and new risk vectors, to supply actionable solutions to the Decision Science, Product, Operations, Engineering, and other partner teams to deploy improved mitigation strategies. You will need to have keen observation skills that will help find opportunities to enhance operating guidelines by ensuring that bad actors are blocked in record time while minimizing negative user sentiment for false positives.

  This role supports a global organization and is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a dynamic and fast-paced environment within the Risk Management function, which is a centralized risk function supporting risk management activities for Uber globally.

  What the candidate will do

  Risk expertise and actioning:

  Own, perform, and strengthen risk assessment to reduce fraud losses and defect ratesTrack the effectiveness of risk actioning programs, to create an early feedback loop and defect identification proactive, to ensure the team reflects on ground truth for decisioning and actioning.Build success indicators based on risk-related actioning that will translate insights at scale and help shore up business impact on Uber's bottom lineLiaise with Data Science, Product, and Engineering teams to identify emerging risks and opportunities keeping a comprehensive view in mind, not just targeting losses but also customer experience, operational and topline impactsIdentify leakages and anomalies in risk identification vectors (ingestion and post-review), diagnose potentially risky combinations, and create rapid remedial action plans for self and partner teams.Influence the risk culture and risk maturity of each program by adopting industry best practices for risk mitigation across the organization including vendor partnersContribute toward the strategy and development of new fraud mitigation methods against additional known and new fraud vectors.

  Tooling and automated solutions :

  Work with program stakeholders across Data Science, Product, Operations, and Engineering teams to understand cross-functional roadmaps and team priorities, to support the improvement of existing systems, tooling, and product through automation and usage of AI/ML solutions.Identify the scope to increase tool usage and adaptability in the risk ecosystems, for more efficient risk decisioning.Create mechanisms to find patterns and trends at scale in the Uber Risk space.Translate these findings into tech-enabled solutions that can help elevate manual review. actioning accuracy and speed.Guide and mentor team members by infusing the product mindset to scale solutions and think beyond operational fixes to enable growth overall.

  Process Excellence :

  Independently manage complex projects while working with respective leads within Uber and the partner ecosystem to drive operational and technical optimizations of risk processes.Design, implement, and monitor all aspects of risk operations to improve decision-making accuracy, and build trusted partnerships for combined success.Track KPIs, and communicate results and remediation plans across levels, by prioritizing findings,identifying dependencies and uncovering potential gaps, and creating an E-2-E escalation framework.

  Qualifications and prerequisites:

  8+ years of industry experience in Risk Management in retail, e-commerce, online services, etc.Minimum 5+ years of fraud and product operational risk roles and analytics experience.Bachelor's or postgraduate degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics,Statistics, or related technical fields.Advanced SQL and experience in building risk/product roadmaps is mandatory.Working knowledge of analytical tools (e.g., Python, R, Jupyter notebooks) for data analysis, and precision analysis for automation, is preferred.Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data and metrics to back up assumptions, and recommendations and drive customer and product-focused decisions.Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to influence and motivate people (both technical and non-tech) cross-functionally, through your relationships.Any Risk, Compliance, Audit, and/or Information Security-related certification preferred

  Offices continue to be central to collaboration and Uber's cultural identity. Unless formally approved to work fully remotely, Uber expects employees to spend at least half of their work time in their assigned office. For certain roles, such as those based at green-light hubs, employees are expected to be in-office for 100% of their time.
