Job Summary
Under general supervision, reviews medical record documentation to abstractand assign diagnoses, procedures, and modifiers for statisticalclassification and reimbursement purposes. Performs various coding assignmentsunder the direction of Coding Management. Provides feedback regardingdocumentation and coding issues. Utilizes software applications and codingreferences, including electronic, to perform coding related tasks.
Essential Functions:
Meets or exceeds the minimum coding productivity standard for the type ofcoding performed. (10%)If applicable, submits a fully completed and accurate production log weeklyin a timely manner. (10%)Meets or exceeds the minimum coding accuracy rate of 95%. (10%)Meets or exceeds the minimum timeliness standard. (10%)Completes required coding training or other assigned coding instruction. (10%)Participates in departmental coding and educational meetings, trainings androundtables. (10%)Maintains current coding credential(s). (10%)Follows all hospital and departmental procedures. Follows directions given byCoding Management. (10%)Manages resources in a conservative, responsible, and cost-effectivemanner. (5%)Ensures confidentiality of patient information by creating and maintaining asecure and trusting environment by not sharing information learned on thejob, except when necessary in the performance of the job responsibilities.(5%)Works as a member of a coding team for the successful benefit of thedepartment and DHHA. (5%)Strives for strong unit cohesion by working well with other members of theteam and performing tasks in a manner that maintains the unit cohesion. (5%)Education:
High School Diploma or GED RequiredWork Experience:
1-3 years Two years medical coding with multi-specialty experience orspecialty certification Required andExperience reviewing medical record documentation RequiredStrong procedural coding preferred.Licenses:
CCS-Certified Coding Specialist - AAPC - American Academy of Procedural CodersRequiredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Applies knowledge of coding, coding guidelines and a working knowledge ofhospital based academic guidelines.Good oral and written skills.Possess strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently andmeet deadlines.Must be capable of reading and interpreting coding guidelines.Ability to handle fast paced environment.Must pass a coding proficiency pre-hire test with 75% accuracy or higher.Good computer keyboarding skills.Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.Epic experience helpful.
