Gentex Optics is part of EssilorLuxottica, a global leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of ophthalmic lenses, frames and sunglasses. GENERAL FUNCTION
The Production Supervisor has two major functions:
Maintenance (daily activities) using the Production Management System.
Improvement (LIFE - Lean Initiatives for Excellence) --- Enhancing and upgrading current standards by continually establishing new and higher targets
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Resource Management
Working environment:
Ensure a safe working environment at all times by owning and driving the BBS program within the department and ensuring a safety-first mindset within the team
Manpower management
Ensure the shift is starting properly and track absenteeism
Address all human relations issues partnering with HR and the Production Manager where applicable
Training and skill management
Responsible for improving job performance by working with group leaders to identify skills improvement opportunities, and assist in the development of new training programs
Track, report and monitor teams' performance and provide constructive feedback and appropriate training and support for teams to reach the standard expected performance level.
Develop group leaders' and associates' problem-solving capability promoting basic structured problem-solving tools such as 5-whys, fishbone diagram, etc.
Improvement
Apply standards
Train to standards according to the TWI approach and using our existing training management system
Own outcome of Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery and Morale (SQCDM)
Review and sign off on work instructions
Audit process; audit standard work for group leaders
Solve problems
Continuous Improvement
Create an environment where ideas are expected and encouraged
Support implementation
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree (preferred) or 5+ years of group lead or supervisory experience in production environments
Proven leadership skills and experience (teaching, coaching and motivation); military leadership experience is an advantage
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with knowledge and process improvement experience in Lean manufacturing (Kaizen, 5S or Six Sigma); 5-whys, fishbone diagram
Excellent process orientation and safety mindset (OSHA, investigations, enforcement, etc.)
Excellent judgment, planning, organizational and communication skills (verbal, written, listening and feedback)
Strong work ethic, positive attitude, self-motivation/direction
Good manufacturing experience and understanding of Equipment Effectiveness Ratio (EER) metric
TWI training method/approach knowledge or experience preferred
Ability to work a flexible schedule required
Ability to:
Set a good example for employees about company policies and procedures
Motivate others, including teams, and challenge individuals to come up with new ideas
Translate complex information into simple, understandable steps
Adapt to and champion change and take calculated risks
