  The Clinical Support Clerk is responsible for providing clerical support for clinical units/departments.

  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  Facilitates timely communications between and relays information to members of the health care team, other departments, patient, family, and visitors in a professional, friendly and efficient manner.

  Demonstrates expertise utilizing computer systems including Epic, Kronos, and MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).

  Accurately and efficiently implements processes related to patient care orders (i. e. schedules and coordinates processes for diagnostic testing and/or procedures for patients, consultations, meal service, isolation precautions, telemetry, etc.)

  Maintains the patient’s medical record (chart/file) related to the admission, transfer and discharge processes (including orders and charges) according to policy.

  Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots all office equipment including computer, fax machine, and printers.

  Maintains current, accurate and cost effective inventory of office supplies and forms.

  Demonstrates ability to accurately and efficiently transcribe staffing schedules / worked time into Kronos.

  Maintains logs and statistics.

  Obtains sorts, sends and delivers mail.

  Maintains a clean and orderly environment.

  Participates in activities which promote personal/professional development.

  Serves on assigned committees.

  Complies with established chain of command for work related problems.

  Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information.

  Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.

  Demonstrates/models the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).

  Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.

  Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.

  Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.

  Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated.

  OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  Participates in the orientation and training of staff. Other related duties as assigned.

  PHYSICIAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

  Sit up to 8 hours per day; 2 hours at a time. Stand for up to 1 hour per day. Walk 1 hour per day; 10 minutes at a time. Continuously uses fingers and hands to manipulate objects. Continuously twists/turns fingers and hands simultaneously. Continuously lifts, carries, pushes and pulls objects up to 10 lbs. Occasionally lifts, carries and pushes objects up to 25 lbs. Frequently pulls objects up to 25 lbs. Occasionally lifts, carries, pushes and pulls objects up to 50 lbs. Occasionally squats, crouches, kneels and climbs. Must have the ability for touching as it relates to perceiving attributes of an object. Must have the ability for hearing as it relates to normal conversation, high and low frequencies. Must have the ability to see as it relates to general, near, far, color, and peripheral vision. Continuously stoop, bend and reach above shoulder level. Must have hand/eye coordination for computer operation.

  POTENTIAL ON-THE-JOB RISKS:

  At risk for cuts and punctures, being confined to small spaces, slippery surfaces, assault and battery, electrical hazards, chemical and biological hazards, injuries from operating machinery, and back injuries.

  SPECIFIC PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE:

  Follow MSDS and OSHA precautions for exposure to biological and chemical hazards.

  MOST COMPLEX DUTY:

  Provides clerical support to patient care units while coordinating efficient and timely flow of communication among members of the healthcare team, patients, visitors, and other departments.

  SUPERVISION:

  Supervised by Patient Care Manager.

  COMMUNICATIONS:

  Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required for interactions and contact with other departments, hospital staff, patients, families and medical staff.

  ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  Self-directed. Demonstrated ability to prioritize work in changing and diverse environments.

  EDUCATION:

  High School Graduate/GED required.

  TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  Previous unit clerk or applicable hospital experience preferred. Demonstrated expertise with defined computer systems. Attendance at and successful completion of additional classes to support other functions of the role may be required.

  WORK SCHEDULE:

  Day and evening shift with varying hours based on the needs of the patient care units; weekends and holidays included. Must be able to work flexible hours to meet position requirements.
