  The Communication Products Operations Department in Mission Systems has an opening for a Principal Manufacturing Mechanical Engineer. This Engineer will support the electronics & hardware of high-performance communication products, such as sophisticated software-defined radios and data links designed for use in various ground, airborne, and space applications.

  This role will be performed ONSITE at our Collins Aerospace Location in Cedar Rapids, IA.

  May be eligible for relocation

  Primary Responsibilities:

  Use and apply mechanical engineering principles and techniques to design, develop, document, verify, and support communication products.

  Lead mechanical hardware development activities.

  Prepare and present project and/or technical information to peers, internal management, and customers. This includes producing technical documentation, specifications, and hardware design documents.

  Apply cost and schedule management methods to projects.

  Work closely with a multidiscipline team to ensure defined requirements are consistently met in all phases of a product's lifecycle, including supporting final product integration, testing and qualification.

  Qualifications/ Experience Needed:

  Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience

  U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract

  Preferred Qualifications:

  Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD). Includes working knowledge of model creation, interrogation with CAD tools like NX and/or Solidworks to support mechanical designs.

  Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and associated analysis methodologies

  Experience with machined and sheet metal manufacturing methodologies

  Experience with MIL-STD-810 and/or DO-160 environmental requirements and associated test methods

  Experience with electronic product packaging requirements

  Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)

  Knowledge in the area of design for low cost, manufacturability and small volume packaging

  Ability to decompose mechanical requirements to support design efforts

  Experience with Bid, proposal and earned value methods

  Experience with Agile development methodologies, including planning, tracking, and managing hardware development tasks in JIRA, is a plus.

  The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

  Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

  Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

  This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
