Job Summary:
The F135 Engine Core Upgrade (ECU) Program is focused on the modernization of the propulsion system for F-35 Joint Strike Fighter to meet aircraft upgraded Block-4 capability requirements. The Engine Design & Systems Integration (EDSI) organization is responsible for the integration of components, modules and sub-systems into world class aircraft propulsion systems. This position is for a Principal Engineer, Sub-systems Integrated Product Team Lead (SSIPT). Systems Integration is an exciting discipline that covers a broad range of responsibilities.
Pratt & Whitney F135 Engine Design & Systems Integration Team is looking for a systems integration engineer who will be focusing on engine clearances and gapping for the design, development, and certification of the F135 Engine Core Upgrade (ECU) for the F-35. This includes all aspects of decomposing and flowing engine clearances related requirements, rolling up status and functioning as the SSIPT’s primary point of contact for all systems related areas. Clearances covers the entire length of a gas-turbine propulsion systems and touches all major hardware and components.
Key Responsibilities:
Own systems level gapping and clearances requirements for the propulsion system through design phases.
Decompose system level gapping and clearances requirements to module level requirements by working closely with systems discipline chiefs and subject matter experts and flow down the module level requirements to all relevant module teams.
Develop schedule and analysis fidelity needed to meet program milestones and communicate to module teams.
Identify risks to meeting systems gapping and clearances requirements and work closely with module teams to find mitigations.
Present gapping and clearances status reports to Systems Integrated Product Team (SIPT), executive leadership and Joint Program Office (JPO) leads at sprint and milestone reviews.
Support design integration tasks including model-based engineering (MB-E) and model based design (MB-Des), configuration management as needs arise.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering with minimum 8+ years of experience in mechanical design, development, and/or test. Or a master’s degree in a related field and minimum 5+ years of experience.
Basic understanding of engine gaps and radial clearance process.
3+ years experience with Team center and Unigraphics.
3+ years experience with Agile engineering practices.
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Active Security Clearance.
IT Focal JCL 2 with experience in export jurisdiction and classification.
Knowledge of jet engine operation and experience in engineering with module center product knowledge.
Basic Teamcenter, xClass and Microsoft Office proficiency.
3+ years experience working with military customers and being comfortable presenting to both military and company leadership.

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
