Organization & Role
The Teradyne Hardware Engineering team is seeking a highly motivated, energetic, technically driven Principal Hardware Design Engineer to focus on the development of hardware products within the System Level Test Division.
The successful candidate for this position will work with an exceptionally experienced design team developing cutting edge electronic hardware used to test integrated circuits in test systems around the world. While the position is principally an electronic hardware designer, the engineer will gain experience with all aspects of modern complex system development in a collaborative environment. These aspects include hardware, software and logic design; design for test and manufacturability; thermal management; mechanical engineering; requirements development and management; and other engineering disciplines.
Responsibilities
Perform or be involved with all aspects of product development for complex hardware systems, from inception through first customer shipment and beyond.
Design hardware elements for system level test equipment
Define and perform hardware prototyping and characterization experiments
Execute product integration and verification test and debug in a hands-on manner. Document results clearly and concisely.
Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines as necessary to produce a successful product design
Mentor junior engineers and lead technical design teams
Basic Qualifications & Skills
Experience 15+ years
Hardware Technical Skills
Experience with digital hardware design (system buses, I2C, SPI, LVDS, JTAG, UART, mixed speed and signal circuit topologies)
Experience with computer interfaces (UART, PCI Express, USB, DDR and the like)
Experience with Op-amps, transistors, AC and DC circuit analysis, power supplies, printed circuit board schematic and layout, general electrical engineering
Experience with the fundamentals of high speed PCB design (routing rules, printed circuit boards stackup, impedance, differential signals, etc..)
Tools
Printed Circuit Board design tools (Cadence preferred, OrCAD, Eagle, etc..)
Simulation tools (Cadence, LT Spice)
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook, Teams, Sharepoint)
JIRA
Lab Equipment: DMM, oscilloscope, function generator, analyzers, compliance testing
Programming skills a plus: one or more of Python, Visual Basic, C/C++ or other language
Excellent troubleshooting, debugging and problem solving skills
Solid verbal, written and presentation skills
Adaptability and ability to learn new skills
Commitment to excellence, efficiency and product quality
Education
BS or MS equivalent in electrical or computer engineering or related field
