Primary instructors have full responsibility for teaching part or all ofa course in the Immersion or Summer Online programs for pre-college(academically advanced high school) students, developed in collaborationwith the Summer Session Office. These are graded courses designedspecifically for academically advanced high school students ready totackle UChicago undergraduate-level material and assignments, andfeature both traditional (e.g., lecture, discussion) and experiential(e.g., labs, field trips) learning activities.
Courses are taught in one of two formats:
An intensive three-week format (June 12-29 or July 5-21, 2023) thatmeets in-person Monday through Friday, from 9am to 3pm, with a lunchbreak from 11:30am to 1pm. (Please note that circumstances mightnecessitate moving in-person courses to remote instruction, socandidates should be ready to shift to that format. The course dateswould remain the same, with some modification of the dailyschedule.)An intensive five-week format (July 5-August 4, 2023) that isremotely taught, with synchronous class sessions held Monday throughFriday, for two hours in the morning or evening, plus additionalmorning and afternoon discussion or lab sections, and asynchronousmaterials such as pre-recorded lectures made available via Canvas.Our instructional employment webpage contains the list of courseofferings in which we have openings, as well as more information aboutour policies and processes:

Eligibility Requirements:
Bachelor\'s degree required; Master\'s or Doctoral degree preferredPrior teaching experience at the university or four-year collegelevel required; familiarity with UChicago pedagogical practices,style, and curriculum preferredPrevious experience working with high school students or in anintensive summer program preferred, but not requiredCandidates whose University of Chicago affiliation will end beforethe start of summer quarter (such as graduate students planning tograduate in the spring) will need to apply as external applicants;contact [email protected] for moreinformation
All hires must be approved by the Offices of the College Dean andProvost, are conditional on having authorization to work in the UnitedStates, and are also contingent on successful completion of a backgroundcheck. All pre-college instructors must complete mandatory training onSafety of Minors on Campus compliance.
Instructors of remotely taught courses must be in the United Stateswhen teaching for the program, specifically in California, Colorado,District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, NewMexico, New York, Oregon, Utah, Virginia, or Wisconsin for tax purposes.Remote instructors must be able to perform their responsibilities from aremote location, and their remote work arrangements are theirresponsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, an adequateinternet connection and an adequate working space.
External candidates hired for this position will hold an appropriatetitle based on their status and affiliation at the time of appointment.For candidates hired as lecturers, this position will be part of theService Employees International Union.
