JOB REQUIREMENTS: Duties This Pharmacy technician is PTCB or ExCPTcertified and performs a full range of duties related to; inventory,inspections, prescription assembly, controlled substances distribution,dispensing, distribution, and other functions of pharmaceuticalpractices under the supervision of a pharmacist. The Pharmacy Technicianmentors and trains lower grade technicians and assists pharmacists inproviding optimal care and timely service in support of the mission,vision, and goals of the VA. Accurately interpret, fills, and preparesprescriptions with appropriate medications and or medical supplies forpharmacist verification. Maintains work areas in a clean and orderlycondition by assuring that all stock and equipment are in assignedplaces and all shelves and counters are free of dust and debris in orderto create optional work areas. Assures drugs and supplies areappropriately stored and secured according to USP and VA guidelines,including the storage of high-risk, look a-like sound a like, hazardous,controlled substances, corrosive chemical, flammable liquids, andrefrigerated items. Receives, checks, rotates, and places in stock allitems received from pharmacy procurement section and identifies andreconciles any discrepancies to assure correct items have been received.Utilizes automation dispensing equipment available to the pharmacy stafffollowing all safety and QA procedures. Reports automation malfunctionstimely the supervisor as appropriate Records expiration dates in theautomatic prescription dispensing system upon receipt. Performs monthlyinspections to assigned areas to ensure proper storage of medicationsand soon to expired drugs are removed. Completes inspection reports incompliance with regulatory requirements. Compounds and/or reconstitutesoral or external medications (non-sterile). This includes calculatingand converting to proper weights and measures the amount of drug orsolution to be used for final pharmacist verification. Manufacturesproducts requiring compounding, whether made in large batches for morethan one patient or in small batches. Correctly interprets physicianorders, selects, and measures appropriate ingredients, mixes ingredientsin a safe and effective manner, inspects the final product for accuracy,labels the product, maintains records of the manufacturing process, andobtains a final check by a pharmacist.
